Colored light for night vision.

So I got approval of the SO to spend some dough on the jeep. although, she doesn't know it yet. I saw the new shoes she bought.

anyway, i'm thinking i'm going to LED-out the jeep in the style of Stu-Offroad.com... but with matching LED Roundeye (slurr?) rock lights.

I was going to do all white, just for brightness... but then i got to thinking, jungle-red for retaining night vision for the rock lights might work pretty well.

what colors would you run?

infra-red. it is visible only to night vision, so only your comrades will know where you are.

i meant un-assisted night vision. I don't want to blind the spotters at night.

come on. i'm funny.

any light except white will play tricks on your eyes, particularly at night. white LED's for rock lights, and just throw a shield up to block the glare from pouring out from under your jeep.

with all the loonies on this board, talk of comrades and infra-red cause me to add layers to my tinfoil.

I figure the rock lights would probably be used more for fixing **** when you need bright light anyway... but i didn't know if red was worth it.

thnx

I'd probably stick with white. I don't think the red vs white has as much to do with night vision loss as the brightness. Sometimes the different colors can play tricks on your vision.

Actually red light is the best color for retaining your eyes' natural night vision.

Although this is partially irrelevant because when you are in a vehicle your vision is already accustomed to the white light of the headlights.

Personally, I would use a multicolored disco strobe just for kicks.

Stick with white light, you'll thank us for it.

I would say red is best for retaining night vision. If you have ever looked into a telescope at night and tried to read a star chart at the same time you know that a red lens just works best.

For high intensity lights It may be annoying to people if it's pointed directly at them, but it should not be an issue unless their under your jeep.

I would just install white lights and make some lens covers of diff colors and see which is better.

easy as pie!

or is that, piece of cake!
