Colorado flooding aerial footage

Just thought I'd share some aerial footage that was taken yesterday of the Longmont/Lyons area where I live. Gives good picture of just how bad things are. This is just one of many towns.

Wow. I hope everyone makes it through this okay.

I'm showing my ignorance here, but what caused the flooding?

Just crazy. I lived in Longmont for about 6 months 15 years ago. Never would I have thought that flooding could occur there, being uphill from Boulder basically.

Yep, rain. Here we got about 13" of rain in about 24 hours. The real problem here though was run off from the mountains.

FIgure the entire area has been on fire the last 2 or 3 summers, nothing to slow down the water to soak in all the way down the mountains. Then after a few days the ground reaches saturation and couldn't absorb anymore even if it had the time. I'm 30 minutes north of ft collins, today is the first time in 2 weeks I've seen blue sky.
