Christmas vs Xmas

does the phrase "Xmas" bother anybody? it used to never nother me untill my mom pointed out "it takes the Christ out of Christmas"

im not gonna say that im the most religious person out there, but it does tend to strike a nerve.

so hows everybody else feel about it?

Well no one says christmas anymore to begin with, they only say "holidays" so it doesn't matter much anyway..... but I think there is no reason not to call something what it is. I will say "Merry Christmas" till I die. I'm tired of hearing all this negativity, this is a time for us to have fun, not be censored by a bunch of *******s.

I think it's just an abbreviation. This article was interesting; I'll have to do a bit more research on the subject later.

If "Merry Christmas" bothers anyone, they should opt to work through the holiday rather than take the paid time off. I just get pissed off when people that really don't matter, try to change society just to be destructive. It also ticks me off when businesses don't want to say "Merry Christmas" to anyone because they don't want to "offend" anyone when the only ones that they will offend are the ones, again, just trying to create waves in our society. To the majority of people out there, it either offends them when the word Christmas is not used or there are others that really don't care one way or another and would not be offended if it's used or not. So they want to cater to the very very few that are nothing but stinking jerks.

If saying "Merry Christmas" bothers anyone, too damn bad. Contrary to popular belief, freedom of expression does not mean you have a right to express your dislike or intolerance of other religions/beliefs by silencing them. There is a night and day difference between separation of church and state, and the oppression of religion. We have the right to express religion, not suppress it. Somewhere, someone got confused.

You are stupid if it bothers you. Worry about yourself and not what others do. Next thing you know you will be in D.C. marching because someone told you to have a Merry Xmas.

That is all.

It doesn't bother me as much as the looks I get when someone tells me Happy Holidays and I respond with Merry Christmas, or the fact that I can't say Merry Christmas (to the customers) while I'm working. If you're going to say Happy Hanukkah (sp?) or Happy Kwanza then so be it, but don't expect me to say it back.

Not everyone is a Christian, though, some people could get offended by the phase Merry Christmas if they are not Christian.

Back on topic, I prefer to call it Christmas, I don't even know where x-mas came from.

Regardless of religious meaning or lack thereof. The 25th of December is officially known as Christmas. There is no reason that you can;t wish someone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Christmas or even tell them that you hope that they have a crappy Christmas. I heard someone say a couple days ago. They have no problem with us saying Happy Valentine's day, or Happy Labor Day, it is the name of the holiday to wish some a happy or merry time that day is not wrong. Basically we are saying hey I know you have the day off I hope you have a good day. I would say it more often but I am sure you have the 25th of Dec. off so have a good day off.

It is not like we are telling them you will follow the religion I have chosen, you will celebrate in the manner I tell you to and if you don't then I will kill you. It is just a person wishing you a good day.

Maybe if we weren't so rude it wouldn't be a surprise or something weird to have someone wish you a good day. If we were polite and treated each other better maybe we would be saying Merry Monday, or Happy Saturday, Heck how about HOHOHO. Merry 14th of October. Yep that is horrible better not tell anyone to have a Nice day you might offend them.

It's not supposed to be offensive or take Christ out of Christmas...Xmas is an abbreviation...a symbol for Christ looks like an X with a P coming out of the top of it.

Stop getting your panties all in a bundle and calm down. The "war on Christmas" is ridiculous.

Yeah, i think i remember hearing that it's been referred to as Xmas for something like 500 or 700 years or so. Not like it's a new phenomenon.

I say we make them all say hahaha instead. Til someone thinks Santa is laughing at them. Maybe Santa should just say Bjork bjork bjork. Can't see anyone getting offended by that. Unless they're Scandinavian
