All of that is good advice. I got hosed on my first car purchase.. the second car I bought I got a fair deal, and the Jeep I feel like I got a really good deal.

It all depends on how you approach it, and you can't be afraid to walk away.

The funny thing about car dealers is the only people who consistently defend their practices are the people who work for them

Thanks for the link

I must be one of the lucky (very) few with a good dealership. I'm on my 3rd Jeep from Dave Burt Motors in Columbus, Indiana, have always received very good deals, and have absolutely no kick with their service department. Guess I'm the exception to the rule.

(I almost made a wise-a.. crack about the Bengals, but decided that a life-long Redskins fan better just keep quiet!)

Since my last purchase of my wife's car I will never deal with anyone in a dealership other than the fleet sales person. With my wife's car I faxed 8 Nissan dealer' fleet sales departments in my area exactly what I wanted and requested that they fax or email me an offer within 3 days. Only 6 replied and 2 were pretty close to the MSRP which put them in the trashcan. Of the 4 only 2 claimed to be able to get me the exact car we wanted. Their prices were pretty close and were both $4K under the MSRP so called both and asked about pricing as well as an extended warranty. One dealer agreed to throw in the 100K mile Nissan warranty and the other wouldn't so I bought it from them. I never had never seen the dealership or sales person until I drove up to pick up the car. Best car buying I've ever done.
