Camera Gurus!

Ok, I have a Nikon N55 that I have been playing around with recently (gf wants me to do her senior photo) and I have some questions about lenses.

I know parts of this are in the other camera thread, but it's kinda different.

I've been told it uses Nikon 'F' Mount lenses. What are those?
And other than the stock lens (28 I think) What are some good lenses for to get a little more distance?

I'm a total newb, but I want to get into photography more...

My god, I'm going broke with all the hobbies I'm gettin!

F mount is the mounting style for most Nikon lenses. In the mid-late 70s it changed somewhat and lenses older than that era usually won't fit anything after the change. That said any recent f mount lense will fit any camera that handles f mount style. Also watch for manual vs auto focus lense differences.

Can't help you much more than that. I was reading a Nikon Camera book that was in my Parents "office" last week.

what kind of distance do you want? you can go 200mm or longer depending on how much you want to spend. i have a 70-200mm lense on my x700 and that does alright but if you want up close and personal say 100yds away your gonna spend some cash.

Nah, not 100 yards... that's like stalker distance. Nope, what I'm looking for is something I can get good zoom out to about 50 yards max. Hell, I couldn't get in too tight at 3-4 yards

check out the vivatar series 1 lenses. they are high quality yet cost much less than Nikon glass. they used to make a 70 to 210 zoom which is a pretty utility focal length. also, their 30 to 105 is a pretty good portrait lens

Sigma or Nikon. Those are the only types of glass I'll recommend. Tokina's got some pretty good lenses, but eh..

get the 70-210mm and say a smaller lense for your more indoor shots and your set.
