Go back to your John Prine or Nickelback...To OP: Yeah, Cake kicks @ss!!!! I have always wondered the same thing of why in the hell they never went super mainstream. But then again when you think about what crap is always "most popular" it's obvious that talent is not the requirement for a, ahem, "band" to be commerically successful. ....STICKSHIFTS AND SAFETY BELTS............

Which, sometimes makes me think, would I like CAKE had they gone mainstream? Maybe some of the coolness factor of them is their sort-of undergroundishness.

And now for the complete opposite: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Pat Green etc. Now lets not turn this thread into everybody's favorite bands but get back on topic about how much Cake sucks![]() __________________ 97 XJ 2 door sport- 3" Rusty's lift, 31" BFG A/Ts |

Registered User | Death please......no wait, cake. They TRIED to make Cake popular. There was a year where they played them all the time on the radio. I hate the radio. I also don't care for Cake very much. But, "undergroundness" does help with the "goodness" factor for music. Indie rock is about all I listen to now. __________________ Check out my Art '83 CJ7, Bored 258, Weber 38 DGAS, 33"s, Rhino-ed tub, Aquasport Seats, Custom (aka homemade) Front Bumper, Tunes, Faded and Chipped Blue Paint with Black Hardtop SOLD |

Registered User | I've been listening to Cake and eating it too since they got big. Even before that, even. They're a NorCal band. From Sac. I appreciate any music that is unique, bold, and doesn't try to be like anything else. Tom Waits, Dylan of course, Rage Against The Machine even fit this category...Cake is so unique. So many cool songs. Sheep go to Heaven Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps Short Skirt, Long Jacket (probably my favorite) The Distance Mr. Mastedon Farm Everything off of 'comfort eagle' for that matter Everything off of 'Fashion Nugget' Everything off of 'prolonging the magic' The list goes on and on and on... I'm dialing them up on the iPod and listening to them on my bike ride home today. Thanks. __________________ It's too bad stupidity isn't painful "Landrover.....are you being a smart-***...cause I really can't tell." - Btwngreengray "LandRover just became my favourite." -Rob99 "I voted for LandRover..." -martinsburgjeep "You ********* racist" -WarEagle "I don't want to hijack this thread but there is quite a bit of proof of large apes in the US." -MarkoPo |

I bought the 'Fashion Nugget' CD back then because I a couple songs from it on the radio all the time. The Distance and Frank Sinatra are my favorite songs that they've made. __________________ 2005 G35 Sedan Sport Package | Mostly Stock 1995 Ford F150 351 l Auto l 4WD l Dual Tanks SLOW | TIRED | INEFFICIENT |
