CAKE; yes or no

Just wondering who's heard of them. I've been listening for a few years now. I can't understand why they never got as famous as they should be. Some how, though, every time I play a song for people they know it. How many of you listen to them?

EDIT sorry to all you people who thought this was going to be about cake (the food) Stop thinking about cake fatso!

Cake SUCKS?? Go back to your John Prine or Nickelback...

To OP: Yeah, Cake kicks @ss!!!! I have always wondered the same thing of why in the hell they never went super mainstream. But then again when you think about what crap is always "most popular" it's obvious that talent is not the requirement for a, ahem, "band" to be commerically successful.

Which, sometimes makes me think, would I like CAKE had they gone mainstream? Maybe some of the coolness factor of them is their sort-of undergroundishness.

Nickelback or Prine (I take offense to that) How bout: Blindside, Zao, Demon Hunter, Embodyment, Pantera. And now for the complete opposite: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Pat Green etc. Now lets not turn this thread into everybody's favorite bands but get back on topic about how much Cake sucks

Death please......no wait, cake.

They TRIED to make Cake popular. There was a year where they played them all the time on the radio. I hate the radio. I also don't care for Cake very much. But, "undergroundness" does help with the "goodness" factor for music. Indie rock is about all I listen to now.

yes.

"Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes; the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup."

Listened to Cake for years, since they were putting out demos. Truly a great little band.

Sublime kicks *** too. So did Bizkit, for awhile.

Who the hell is Nickelback?

I've been listening to Cake and eating it too since they got big. Even before that, even. They're a NorCal band. From Sac.

I appreciate any music that is unique, bold, and doesn't try to be like anything else. Tom Waits, Dylan of course, Rage Against The Machine even fit this category...Cake is so unique. So many cool songs.

Sheep go to Heaven
Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps
Short Skirt, Long Jacket (probably my favorite)
The Distance
Mr. Mastedon Farm
Everything off of 'comfort eagle' for that matter
Everything off of 'Fashion Nugget'
Everything off of 'prolonging the magic'

The list goes on and on and on...
I'm dialing them up on the iPod and listening to them on my bike ride home today. Thanks.

I thought Cake got pretty big in the mid '90s. I bought the 'Fashion Nugget' CD back then because I a couple songs from it on the radio all the time.

The Distance and Frank Sinatra are my favorite songs that they've made.
