Budweiser, a Belgian Beer

Budweiser (actually Anheuser-Busch) has reportedly been sold to a Belgian beer company for 52 BILLION.

I am sure some people will be up in arms about this, but in a capitalist society, these things happen, no matter how a company is marketed.

Exactly.

It's amazing the stuff they can label and market "beer" these days. Corn and rice indeed.

Hey thanks POl, noticing a nearly month old thread that didn't even have all of the pertinent information.

You must feel so good with your search skillz.

Maybe they'll make the beer BETTER? Budweiser is swill....at least IMHO. The Europeans seem to have a much better handle on making brews overall. There are exceptions in the states, but they are few and far between (and rarely mass produced).

They won't change the original, do you think they'd change it after paying 52 billion for it? They may of course add to the lineup which would be nice.

Just because Belgium has bought Budweiser, that doesn't mean production will get moved there as well. There will still be American breweries and distributors. And hell, they can't take Busch Gardens.

It's THEIRS now, I'd tend to agree they may add to the lineup more than change their recipe, but you never can tell. Wasn't Dr Evil a Belgian?

labor-wise its cheaper for them to brew all their products here. I'd expect expansion actually

Hopefully they will get rid of the Chelada and all of the other ****ty products Anheuser-Busch has to offer.

"Sandstorms inflict damage of about $540 million per year, and losses of crops and forests due to acid rain amount to about $730 million per year. More serious are the $6 billion costs of the "green wall" of trees being built to shield Beijing against sand and dust, and the $7 billion per year of losses created by pest species. We enter the zone of impressive numbers when we consider the onetime cost of the 1996 floods ($27 billion, but still cheaper than the 1998 floods), the annual direct losses due to desertification ($42 billion), and the annual losses due to water and air pollution ($54 billion). The combination of the latter two items alone costs China the equivalent of 14% of its GDP each year." - Jared Diamond, Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed

It may be theirs now but they paid to have one of the best selling beers in America. They won't change the original because it brings in big bucks. Now adding to the lineup would make a lot of sense but even that may not happen.
