Blackout question

Okay well, whenever i stand up, not everytime but a lot of times, everything goes black for a good 5 sec but sometimes it can be longer. I am not sure what causes this, ive been told its because i stand up to fast, but sometimes it will happen like 5 sec after i stand up and start to walk.

So it is do to standing to fast or did i mess something up in my head and should possibly go get it checked out? Also does this happen to anyone else?

Um, in my honest opinion (non-medical, mind you), you should absolutely go get that checked out by a doctor.

If I stand up too fast, all I get is a tiny bit of lightheadedness that goes away in a second, simply from the inertia of the blood wanting to stay closer to the ground/floor.

If you don't go and get checked out NOW, you are crazy. Blacking out is not normal. Sure, it's been going on for a year and you lived with it, but it could be an indication of something serious or not so serious.

My Dad had issues like this when he was younger. Turned out to possibly be related to diabetes.

GET CHECKED OUT NOW!!!

Sometimes I get light headed when I wake up hungover and get up really fast, but the lightheadedness is pleasant usually...

Get it checked out by a doctor, sounds like a blood flow problem.

Also it may have something to do with the fact im going from a dark room to a room with a lot of lights and windows maybe? Also it normally happens more if im laying down and get up fast then walk into the light room.

But sometimes it happens like 4 times a day sometimes it doesnt. Some are like 6 sec some are 1. Its not very consistent.

persistence has nothing to do with consistence. Just because they aren't alike each time, doesn't mean they happen often enough that it's a problem.

definitely consider going to a doctor.

Does your heart speed up when things start going black? Serious question, I might know what's troubling you.

Oh, well then the really dont seem like they happen very often, it happened today but not bad and it has not done it in over a week.

But really not that im thinking about it, its only happened in my family room when i stand up and walk into the kitchen. So now i think its just the fact that its really dark in the family room and im normally watching tv and going into a room that is bright. So it may be do to my eyes dilating to fast or to slow?

(Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) Or a form of it.

Some people have to take sodium tablets to regulate their blood pressure.

I bet your black outs are the longer if you were laying down for long periods.

It pools in your brain and when you stand up your heart has to pump extra fast to get it back up in there.
