BFG A/T's on a Dodge 1500 2wd?
My dad has a Ram 1500 2WD that needs some new tires(It'll be on its 3rd set) and he'll be needing them soon seeing as they only have another 5k miles on them and its his DD. Winter is coming up and all I've heard are good things about the BFG A/T's...he wants a tire that will have very good traction and wear well. The biggest point is that he doesnt want the tire to slip, basically when he makes a turn with the truck and there is no load in the bed(8ft so they is basically no weight back over the drive wheels when no load) he does not want the back end to swing out b/c of slipping(This happened with the stock tires). Will the BFG's fufill this? This is a real work truck(Not like the pristine condition ones you see all the time) and he wants a real working tire...basically good traction, no slippage and good wear. I'm open to other options also just these tires are real cheap at Sam's Club. Please leave all your opinions/ideas. Thanks

Had a set on my CJ7, and got 112,000 miles, and there was still good tread left. They worked fine on everything except mud. But, I have never had a set of any kind of tire that was immune to hydroplaning.

I've been very pleased with mine. Like was said above...there not excellent mud tires...but then again you probably won't be going through any mud holes! Their good in the rain and snow and wear very well.

The BFG A/Ts are a great tire, and I'd recommend them to just about anyone.
But to be honest, I've never seen a full size 2WD truck that wouldn't spin the back tires in snow or rain without much trouble, no matter what tires are on it short of studded snow tires. |

I had some 285/75/16's on my 2wd ext cab dodge. They were great tires. They wear great and got great traction on the roads, even in the rain. It was possible to make them spin a little when it was wet, but you pretty much had to try to do it.

The real Q is.... 30's or 31's? I'll check what size tire he has on it tommorow.

I HAVE AN IDEA!
Maybe I'll be able to convince him to let me swap out the GSA's on my Jeep and put them on his PU! The GSA's have 19k on them and I have a spare that has never been used. Then I may be able to convince him to pay 1/2 of fee for mounting/balancing/buying 31'' BFG A/T's for my Jeep! It would work since his rims(Stock he's not flashy j/k) are 15's and so are the GSA's. All it would involve is getting some jackstands, putting the jeep up on four of them, removing the tires/rims, throwing them in his PU, driving down to local tire place and mounting the tires! I'm a Genius! And if it works I get tires for 1/2 off! Hope it works, hope it works, hope it works!!! Wish I could just give him the rim/tire combo but jeeps 5 lug and dodge is 6 lug. Most likely this will not happen but I can dream. |

I have the BFG's on my 2002 dodge 1500 SWB and have no complaints with them I did go with the biggest that would fit on it and I am still able to spin them when its wet out but you have to really get on it, mine did slide a little with the stock tires but the BFG's took care of that, IMO they are good tires.
