holy crap...
Yea, but if he jumped and the train derailed...the rest of the cars would have taken him out. Better chance inside... was it a cargo train or passenger?

I am a freight train conductor and this just freaked me out, even though I see videos like this all the time in my training I always get goosebumps. The engineer was probably going around 40mph (my guesstimation) and he did not see that switch until the last moment that's when I heard him dump the air brakes. It would be be very unlikely that there are any survivors, no seat belts and locomotive cab is just a steel box full of sharp corners and glass.

Geez, didn't anyone bother to read the accompanying information?
"A BNSF Railway southward loaded coal train, operating at 36 mph, entered an occupied siding through a switch mistakenly left open, in non-signal territory and struck cars that were sitting there. As a result of the collision, 26 cars and two locomotives were derailed, both crewmen were injured and damages estimated to exceed $1,000,000."

So is at fault for not throwing the switch? The stopped train or the other?

The previous train or whoever lined the switch in the first place they need to get the switch back.
