Looking to buy a family member a Survival Book, but wasn't sure which one.
He's big into the off-the-grid stuff, post apocalyptic survival, etc.
Any suggestions that are also good reading?

"How to survive the apocalypse" by The Grim Reaper.
No kidding...I saw it in a bookstore a few years ago. It's actually a very detailed and informed book.

GEM SAS SURVIVAL GUIDE. It is written by John Wiseman. I have found it to be the most complete survival book around. It also has detailed/colored pictures of plants that are edible and medicinal.

Yep. Christmas present.
This one looked really good, but its $55. I'm getting him several things (my brother-in-law), so I was hoping for a little less expensive book.

x2. Great book. Covers almost every aspect of survival. I like it too because it isn't super tacticool commando. Its just basic survival techniques that will save your life if you ever get into a situation.

I got this one many many years ago in the AF, only mine is waterproof with laminted pages and fits in a flightsuit pocket. It stays in my go bag, it has some great stuff in it, not sure how it compares to the other ones listed as I haven't read them.

There is a really good novel about survival, it's written by the guy that does survivalblog.com. THe book is called "Patriots". It is a novel, but the book is also a blueprint on how to prepare for the inevitable collapse.

you should be able to find some Tom Brown Jr. books for cheap. TBJ is... interesting, a little hokey, but he has some good info on tracking, plants, awareness, etc. They're a fun book to read.
Some military manuals are cheap on cheaperthandirt.com.
I'll x2 the SAS Survival Guide.

I'm not looking for a manual really- something that would be enjoyable to read and be informative.
Couple of good suggestions in here. I'll look into them and see if any of them are the one.
Thanks!
