Best Laptop??

I'm a senior in highschool this year and going to college next year. I want to get a good laptop in a few months when i save the dough. What is the best brand. Dell seems to have a pretty good looking one. I just need the basics with plenty of memory and the wireless internet deal. I really don't know much about this stuff, so any help is appreciated. thanks

Taylor

Looking for something for your laptop, huh? Just get a good blonde: memory isn't all that big of an issue; think about what you're really using it for, remember? As far as wireless, that's only an issue if you're into that sort of thing. Handcuffs are generally less painful than wires, anyway.

I've never had much problem with Dells: I'd say just pour the money into processors and memory: the digital-camera memory card readers, etc. are nifty, but they really just suck up memory, money, and space: all three are at a premium on a laptop. As far as the wireless internet, remember where you're at: there's guys hanging around the University Centers, dorms, etc. that have been hacking into people's computers since they were three: picking your signal out of the air is child's play to them: be careful what you do as far as credit card #s, SS#s, etc. etc. etc.

I grew up on PCs and when I left for college over three years ago, I bought a Powerbook, it's rock solid, very rarely has it ever been shut off in those three years, and it has never had any problems. I have a Compaq notebook, my Powerbook, and my BYO desktop, and the only one that hasn't let me down is the Powerbook. But, if you were sticking to a PC, buy a Dell.. goto Gottadeal.com and watch for coupon codes and special deals you can save a ton of money. I bought a 19" flat from Dell, its list price was over 500, and i got it for like 230 with a couple of coupons..

just my 2 cents

Averatec.com

i got one of the 12" models, but the 6400 series from a year ago was pretty sweet for a big laptop. I am actually using the laptop now, I have never had any problems with it. Go to library and check out the PC mags and see what they recomend and say is good and bad.

Look at compaq laptops. They recently merged with hp and their quality has significantly improved. I got a top of the line 64 bit processor one from them in July with all the bells and whistles and i couldn't be happier.

Stay away from Dell and anything with a Compaq logo on it. Trust me.

Get an IBM laptop. Quality is great and you will never have an issue. Been repairing PC's / Laptops/Servers, etc. for almost 10 years now... I would reccomend an IBM over anything at the moment.

I love how people say this one sucks,Blah blah blah. There all Roughly around the same,Compaq,Hp,Dell, gateway. All depends what your using it for.If its just for Running Office and stuff like that.I mean your not planning on it being a Stand Alone Server, lol.Anyone of those would be Fine.IBM is a sound machine and capable of more then the lower end ones. But any of those will suite you well and you wont have any problems.Just make sure you get Enough RAM.256 or higher Preferable,Anything 2 Gig or Higher for Processor speed is all you will ever need for Doing homework and Office Projects. Most new ones come with Built in Wireless G adapters,They handle B as well.I even think ones 3-4 years old have built in Cards.Older or cheaper ones you may have to buy a plug in card.Good luck and Do not strain yourself over brand names as much.Get the basics and you will be fine

Your school probably has a deal set up with one of the major computer companies, and you'll be able to get it for a discounted price through them, as well as being able to have it serviced through your schools computer store.

I would have to agree. Ive had many IBM Thinkpads over the past 6 years. They are by far the best laptop I have ever used.

My school does and I got it MUCH cheaper not going thru it and using coupon codes and special promotion (whatever it may be that particular week, which wasnt offered on the student "deal" page).

I personally bought a Dell, all I buy anymore honestly, and none have ever let me down. Follow the head of warning about staying about from HP/Compaq, has about the same quality as a Ford Fiesta.
