Best GPS for Desert Exploring?

Just bought my first Wrangler and will explore the AZ desert following a friend in his Jeep. I would like to purchace a GPS that will record our trips so that I can find the places of interest that he shows me. Also would like all the other features such as waypoints etc that I had in my Street Pilot.
Any advice appreciated.

i have a Garmin GPSmap60. it works really well for me. i has waypoints, tracks, you can download maps to it and it has turn by turn. people will tell you to get the color one but i dont see the need for it. i got mine from this guy on ebay. his prices were dirt cheap and ships quick. i was really pleased with the product. i would only buy Garmin tho. they are the best.

One of the more popular is the Garmin GPS 60CSx. Does well on or off road. Assuming you bought new and have a JK, you might also look at this mount:

They have others for older Wranglers as well.

Old and outdated now but you can still find used: Garmin V. Does waypoints, map trails and can be hand carried as well as vehicle mounted. What ever one you get make sure it isn't a road use only one.

Thanks for your input, I like the looks of the 60CSX, would like one with bigger screen with N America maps, and points of interest like my Street pilot has, any ideas?

X3 on the Garmin GPSMAP 60 series which I've had the 60CS (which was stolen) and now the 60CSx which has a faster processor and expanded memory. It's real hard to beat and has all the features that would be needed for offroading.

The 60 CSx has those, just not the larger screen you're looking for. Perhaps the Quest 2, which will do topo maps. I don't believe the Nuvi or Street Pilots do topos.

Nuvi will do topos...the menu allows you to select from multiple map data bases, but you can only display one at a time
