Best cars under $50,000

I would like to see what you all think the best and fastest car you can buy at $50,000 or under is. Lets say it has to be brand new.

It may not be the BEST car under $50,000, but I sure do like the new MAZDASPEED6 thats coming out real soon. Fully loaded, it comes to about $35K.

I've always liked the BMW M3. MSRP $47,300, so to keep her under 50 you can't go option happy. Not the fastest car under 50,000, but probably one of the most satisfying.

I think the Porsche Cayman is just a little too expensive to be considered. The Camaro and Firebird are great, but you cant buy em new anymore so they dont really count. Subaru WRX STi is great, same with a new Vette. You can use the extra money to upgrade those

i would say buy a cheap muscle car shell and spend the rest of the money on the engine, that would beat every new car!

I agree the M3 is a great choice, but I would go for the new corvette coupe, 400 horsepower, 6 speed, and atarts at $44,500.

While I agree with the M3 of being a VERY nice car, and one of my many dream vehicles, I have to nominate the Lotus Elise. Super fast and exotic, and for $48K it comes HIGHLY equipped. Also it's very sexy.

No kidding - There are plenty of Gen 1 or Gen 2 trans ams in my area with rediculously large engines to be had for under $20,000 - things that put down supercar numbers at the drag strip.

They don't call them 'Rice Rapers' for nothing.

Alternatively, take brandon's advice and buy a sub $1000 used pony car, and spend $17000 on a dodge viper crate motor, or whatever the price is for a big 502. Just make sure the blower sits up high enough so your butterflies are out of the hood.

Now, take your remaining $30,000 and buy the essentials - tough rear axle, new tires, new suspension components, bucket seats, and absolutely paint it black.
