My commute is ~8 blocks but I'm always 5 - 10 minutes late because I drop the kids off at school in the mornings. It's not a big deal tho because I often eat lunch at my desk and stay 30 - 60 minutes after everyone else has left.

If someone is depending on you, you better be there on time. If your work is mostly independent (like mine) I don't care if you're a little bit late... just get your crap done in a timely manner.
