Bad accident Sunday night

I bought my 2003 Civic on April 25th. By the time I came home from school and got settled, I didn't start driving it until Monday, May 14th.

Sunday night (only 6 days later) I was involved in a bad accident. I was traveling about 40 MPH up one road. A woman was going way to fast, lost control of her vehicle, jumped the center divider, crossed two lanes of traffic and hit me head on.... upwards of 55 MPH. The police report indicates that I had 22 feet of skid marks and hers were only 3 feet, which basically means she hit me at full speed.

WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!

The occupants of the vehicle that hit me fled. I called 911 and they took me to the hospital. I have two sprained wrists, sprained right thumb, and back and neck contusions. The underside of my left forearm has a severe burn about 7 inches long and 5 inches wide.

The police caught the people who hit me. The driver is a middle aged spanish woman who doesn't speak a word of English. Great. But they do have insurance... which makes it odd that they left the scene of the accident.

Anyway, here we go.
Here was my nice new car a few days ago:

And here is the result:

Unibodies are ok, but I wish I had the frame of my Jeep in this accident.

Did your airbag go off? I couldn't tell from the pictures. Only one I saw was the passenger side.

And hey, at least it was only a Honda. I would have cried for you if it was the Jeep.

I dunno, if you had your jeep you'd probalby still in the hospital. Look at how much the civic crumbed, now how much energy did that absorp instead of transfer to you.

Glad to hear you are relatively okay considering.

So she didn't speak a word of English, and she decided to run. Wouldn't it be great if the country had more people like that.

Lucky she had insurance.

Good luck with your recovery.

Dude I am glad you are ok. All i have to say is always were your seat belt. Sunday night i was riding with my friend who was taking me back home and we were going down a road that is not lit very well with a speed limit of 30mph and is only 2 lanes. While going down the road i heard my friend say "now that is weird" before i could ask him what it was a blue mustang goes flying past us going around 70 with his lights turned off. Turns out he was running form the cops because several secs later we see a cop car in the distance so we pull over and a total of 5 cop cars go by. Later a helicopter begins circling over for about an hour. The point is you never know what is going to happen, i don't even want to imagine what would have happend if that mustang would have hit us or any oncoming traffic.

I'm mostly pissed about the car and missed work. I contacted a lawyer and told him I didn't want to sue UNLESS I don't get what I deserve for the car. As you can see in the first picture, the car had some Proline rims on it, I added some fancy interior parts, and I put the rear spoiler on it (that added 20 horsepower easily).

The car stock was KBB at $13,500. Add the rims and stuff and you're looking at over $14,500. I want to pick myself up a 2005 Civic with only 30K miles on it (mine only had 40K for a 2003). If they don't cooperate, I'm going to tell them they need to handle all future correspondence through my lawyer.

Like I said, I just want my money to replace the car, and the two weeks of lost wages, plus medical bills. I'm ok for the most part, thank God. But I'm not going to bend over and take it from some insurance company. (She has Geico.)

Thankx for the warm wishes everyone.

--- Ross

PS: After I took those pics, I went over and kicked the hood of the car, and the front bumper fell off. It went out with one last whimper.

i bet that was exciting. let's hear it for seatbelts. my jeep doesn't move unless all the occupants are restrained.

this is what put me in the JK....

rear end slid out on a rainy road, maybe 40 mph. 2 rolls, ended up on the roof.

Your damn right about that man! And im glad the OP is still in good shape. Here is my accident that brought me back to my roots and in the jeep again.

This is the before of my 421HP/444TQ SRT-4

This is after a truck in the next lane decided he wanted to be in my spot at the same time. It forced me into a 6'' deep ditch and caused 3 rolls and one flip (we were traveling at 65mph). I walked away without any bruising, scratches or anything. My chest was soar as if i did a PT test for the army, and thats it. I owe everything to my seatbelt, airbag and most of all God.
*note: the rear bumper was not put there by human hands.

Glad you're okay!!! Injuries are minor. Hopefully they'll find the occupants of the vehicle. Any word if it was stolen or if they were drunk? What happened to the driver of the other vehichle?

Your 03 held up better than my daughter's 04. She was t-boned at about 50 mph...

Luckily she didn't have a passenger.

Now she's driving something a bit more solid...
