Back to school at 32

Yea, I'm mighty sick of rotation shifts overseas. I love the money, but as I get older, that isn't my priority anymore. (funny how that works AFTER you have money)

In order for me to afford to do so, I'd have to sell my house. My grandmother wants me to move in with her to take care of her and the place while I'm a student but I'm a little wary about that part of it.. even if it is going to be rent free!

In a way I'm excited about going back and finishing off my petroleum program, another part of me says I'm out of my mind to go back at this age.

On the plus side, over my 2 years in school I should make some decent return on investment with the house money.

What do you think? Right now I work 35/35, make lots of cash but I'm losing my friends and can't keep a relationship due to the distance, but, I'm making a killing.

School is a whole lot more fun when you are older.....money isn't everything.

*Maybe you just need a little home schooling*

I went back at 28. Had a family, house note, new truck, and plenty of support from my parents. Made me a better student knowing I had to succeed to pay back the student loans. Did a Mechanical Engineering degree in 4 years including 3 summers. It's been one of the best decisions I ever made.

Only 2nd thought, Pharmacy school!

32 isn't to late to go back to school. It really depends on what type of degree you are looking at, and what it pays. I know many, myself included, who have gone back for a degree or furthered their college past that age. I think the hard part might be to figure out what intrest you, and if your abilities and temperment is right for that field of work. I am not really using my degree at the moment. I work as a drafter, but my degree is related in manufacturing engineering.

I did the whole life on the road gig, not m-f travel, the kind where you live on project until you are done. It's hell on you social life. Plus education is the key. It may sound cliche but it's true.

Congrats and good luck.

Good luck and be prepared to be annoyed by the kids in your classes. I was only 25 when I graduated, but I quickly tired of hearing "OMG, this test is so unfair. I didn't even study because you know, Jimmy and I are fighting, and I got soooo wasted last night"

Although you will have different distractions this time around, I think it is typically easier because life experience will help you. Besides, they can take your stuff, they can take your money, but your education is yours forever*.

*Or until you get old and forget everything like not pooping in your pants.

Geez grandpa, 32 is not that old!! At age 30, I went back to school to get out of a dead-end career and earn an associates degree in computer science. I went to a technical school that had an accelerated program, so I was able to finish in about a year. It wasn't easy or cheap, but it has paid for itself through increased income. And these days, online courses are available for lots of degrees, so that makes it much more convenient. Go for it!

I just finished my application. As for the details of how I'll eat or where I'll sleep, I figure that part will work itself out...
$25 fee to process the application... here we go.. a fee for everything!

Good for you. 32 is definitely not too old. The best thing I ever did was drop out of college and work for a few years. Nothing like working to make you realize what you want to do with your life and what really matters. You WILL get sick of all the kids complaining about how hard college is because they're so busy getting wasted 5 nights a week.

Me and my seasoned liver will be the ones pouring the shots for these kids... it should be entertaining if nothing else.

and then, the jail bait will come along

My friend who goes to school with me is 38. He was going to be a teacher but now that he graduates in a month he is unsure but he can now move up in his current job with his new education. You meet great new people. I am young enough to date his daughter, but we are still great friends (no I do not date her, or even talk to her) Good luck!
