Yeah you heard that right. I don't know about you but i dont like falling satellite's from space that can land anywhere and kill a few hundred or thousand people.

I'd bet that the odds of it hitting you are pretty slim. What are the Vegas odds (you know they are betting on this)? I'm not going to loose any sleep over it.

Funny that you only hear dribs and drabs in the news.
They want to shoot it down because they're afraid the toxic chemical (fuel?) halzene (maybe something close to that) will contaminate the area it crashes into. What about the fact they're going to blow it up in the atmosphere will atomize it into the air?

That stuff burns up in the atmosphere, so it's no risk. They just don't want anybody to get their hands on either the technology or the information that's stored on it.

Now THAT makes sense.
Of course, they couldn't put that on CNN-thus, some "halzene" concern

Hydrazene I believe it is, and it's more common than you think. It's really toxic but burns super hot. Once they hit the falling satellite it will burn to nothing.

Yup -- and regarding "Any of us could die soon".... that situation has always existed.

The first thing I heard was they were afraid that some of the camera technology would fall into the wrong hands. Then that story morphed into the Hydrazene story. If they keep telling different stories no one will ever know the true reason. That seems to be S.O.P. for us.

They've been doing it for years-nothing new.

Makes sense to me. I know Hydrazene is used in atmospheric aircraft, but because I am not a rocket scientist, I have know idea if they use in as rocket fuel. I believe it does not require much if any O2 to burn, which would mean it's a viable fuel for space. It all seems obscure, as long as no National secrets are lost, I could care less about why they want to destroy it.
