I agree with getting rid of the Explorer. It might be different if it was an Expedition, but an Explorer isn't a vehicle that I would be keeping long term due to reliability issues and lack of being able to do anything really well.

I also think you need to spend some time listening to the Dave Ramsey show.

FWIW... I'm getting rid of my 3rd Mustang for a Jeep. One soft top for another.

a reality check would be a good thing though. maybe i should ask for a 24hr testdrive.

alternatively, i see 3 choices:
a) trade the jk for mustang and find a used tj for under 5k$ and mod the heck out of it
b) keep the jk and find a used v8 mustang/camaro for under 5k$ and mod the heck out of it
c) be happy with what i have and stop wishing for more ways to spend my har earned money

option a) Too expensive in the long run...modding an older jeep is addictive and costly

option b) Best bet imo, I sold my '05 GT Premium because although an awesome car...there are much cheaper ways to go fast in a straight line...sport bike, convertible foxbody/5.0 stang or older Z28 for $5k, and if it's just an occasional drive to get your "speed" fix, it won't need alot of mods.

option c) Now that's just not fun...smart...but not fun

ok so I ask why you pose this question in a Jeep forum asking for non biased opinions..

but ill put in my 2 cents.. I have gone from jeep to muscle car and back to jeep several times over the years and have found that I always miss the Jeep when its gone.. esp those first warm days or on that snowy morning..

one of the other posts mentioned buying an older stang and building it.. considering im a chevy man ive done something similar.. I have my new 4 door wrangler to be my Daily driver and also somewhat of a hauler. I traded my last TJ because I needed more cargo space.. but then I have my 86 Monte carlo which is a project and im slowly building it up.. so whe nI feel the need for speed i take out the carlo.. and yes it is taking time because its expensive to build a car and do it the right way... but then I also have my Jeep too this way...

how about another spin... ditch the wrangler and the explorer and get a 4 door unlimited wrangler and the mustang.. thus you have your jeep and muscle car.. assuming your wife would drive the stang on the days you want the jeep.. just a thought..

well, we need a 4door family vehicle... plus, there are only a few payments left on it, so financially it wouldn't be wise now IMHO

Get the Jeep. Or buy mine cheap (link in the sig) and swap a 5.0 into it. Last decent engine Ford made IMO anyway.
1) The Ford is ok, yes, Vette is better.
2) I think the wheel wells could be cut back nicely and a solid front axle would go in with the new frame and a supercharger could spin the knobbies. Of course a roll bar would cramp the compartment a little, but you would rip out the frilly interior anyway.

Yes, it could work, maybe.

that's what makes it such a hard choice with all those trails around here and Moab close enough for a weekend trip...i donno... i can't see myself taking the stang to a racetrack/dragstrip, but i surely can take the jeep on a trail.
damn! its like choosing which leg you want to break - right or left

You know if you wont go to the track to enjoy the stang, and there are plenty of trails around....I think you know what you really want.
