Anyone who owns an older sony hard drive camcorder - I would love some help

A friend gave me a Sony Handycam Camcorder, DCR-SR60. It turns on, but the screen is cracked, so I can only see the left 1/4 of the screen, the touchscreen works across the entire thing though.

My problem, when I turn on the camcorder, I get 1 power on beep followed by 3 warning beeps and a warning message shows up, which I can't read because of the cracked screen. Also, the light on the front that normally illuminates while recording blinks twice a second, constantly, for as long as I have on the camcorder. I'd like to strap it to unsafe places on my Jeep and get cool video, but it won't record. Any help or ideas would be great!

One more thing, I don't have an A/V cable, but if I were to buy one, can I browse through the menus on the video mode, using my TV as the makeshift screen?
