Anyone into the EDC/survival bag thing?
I recently became interested in the idea of a daily carry bag (thanks edcforums.com) and after throwing a small bag together to toss into the work truck about two months ago I think i have become addicted to it.
I bought a $20 canvas briefcase style shoulder bag from militarysurplusworld.com and put some useful stuff in, and 2 months later it is exploding with stuff I have used at least twice a week and saved me time. I won't list stuff that's in it because its expansive and pretty generic. (except Pocket Ref and Handyman in Your Pocket, those are awesome books)
My problem is now that it is doing double duty as a get home bag and a useful work stuff bag and I either need a bigger one or two separate ones.
I have a problem and I see no cure for it any time soon. Is anyone else suffering from this addiction?

I dont have a tool bag or anything, if I am going on a long trip I usually just take my basic tool kit. As far as the survival bag. I have sort of a bug-out bag with food rations, emergency food bars, water filter, cloths, basic + advanced survival items, stove etc. I take that with me when I go on trips along with a few gallons of water.
I dont know if that was what you were wondering, i am prolly way off topic.

I carry a bag like that in my Cherokee at all times, along with my tool box, a bow saw, flashlight, fire extinguisher, recovery gear, etc.
The viking in me wants to be prepared no matter where I go.

I always have 3 sets of clothes, water for a week, food for 3 weeks, and a huge list of other crap in the heep at all times.
That list includes ammo, a tool set, hatchet, fire starting supplies, hacksaw, emergency blankets, fire extinguisher, first aid kits... good lord I can't even to begin to think of all the stuff i have back there. Anyways, it all takes up the entire rear compartment and often overflows into the rear seat. I try to keep it organized, but it gets messed up pretty easily.
But anyways back on topic, my bugout bag includes a set of clothes, ammo, food/water for 3 days, and various little gadgets. I have one in my heep and one in my room.

I have something similar. I always have my tools in my Jeep along with a fire extinguisher, and a folding shovel. I also have a full custom first aid kit, extra clothes, MRE's, 2 foil blankets, extra poncho's, tarp, hand saw, fire starting items, emergency NOAA weather radio, CB and a survival book. I'm sure I have more **** in my Jeep, but that's all I can think of. When I get back to the states, I'm going to get a couple of plastic tubs and pack it all up so it's not one big mess.

I do like being prepared, too. A man who is prepared is able to rely on himself during unexpected situations. An unprepared man is at the whims of others.
Striking the right balance between gear and the space/weight is always a tricky thing. Alas, there really is no simple answer there. I guess the best way is to keep everything organized and think each item through carefully - going gadget nuts is easy when you're preparing but during the event, can you find that gadget? Can you use it? And does the weight and amount of space taken by the gadget worth what it brings to the situation?
Hmm. I should, in fact, re-inventory my Jeep and backpack myself...

I don't keep a full bug out bag in my vehicles, but I do keep a small bag of the bare essential tools and survival gear

I made the situation even worse last night.
My friend loaned me his truck for a few months while I start a new job. I haven't had one for a few years. I put my huge job box in the back and loaded it with all my tools, and I still had room so I decided why not jam a bunch of my jeep tools in there too (mostly break down gear and quick fix stuff).
Now I have a monster bag to lug back and forth and a metric ton of tools, there is no end in sight.
