Anyone ever do the military reserves?

I got out of the military in '01. Sometimes I wonder about doing the reserves but dont know. It seems like one of those things they say, "Once you leave home its never the same." I get the recruiter calling all the time wanting me in..guess navy medics needed for marine units/hospitals but the truth be told....I can be an officer now and don't want to go back as enlisted. Share your experiences if ya could. thanks.

I got out at the end of 2000. Not sure I could go back to it but I sure did have some good times. Of course if I did, I'd probably have to go back to AIT for a new MOS... my previous one had a life expectancy of less than a minute in combat field operations.

Still, being a reservist wouldn't be all that bad doing the 1 weekend a month thing. Something to consider if I ever really get in a rut anyways.

My friend is in the reserves, just recently re-enlisted as well. After re-enlisting his unit was sent to Iraq. He has been there since October and is supposed to be back in a year. He was happy he re-enlisted until they sent him to Iraq, then he was kicking himself.

Dont know if this mattered, just thought it might be a thought. Some people dont ever think that because they are in the reserves that they will actually have to do something.

Be *VERY* careful about what you say. It's carelessness like this that leads to more Pauly Shore movies.

I got out in 1999. I would do anything to get back in. I'm too fat, I weigh 235 and they won't let me back in until I weigh under 194. I'm working on the weight loss but I now I'm getting too old. I'm 27. I was never in the reserves but I kick myself every day that I didn't join after my active duty was over.

I wanted so badly to re-enlist after 9/11. (I got out in '93 due to my son being born while I was in the Gulf during 90/91. Decided I can't be a father, and a Soldier at the same time)

Unfortunetly, I have two bad discs in my back, which keeps me out. No way I could ever do the things I did while I was enlisted (which probably had something to do with my discs going bad to begin with.)

well im enlisted in the marine corps but in the d.e.p. and wont be heading to boot camp until june. cant wait. my mos is rifle man and plan on trying out for recon or maybe go to sniper school. ive thought of alot of things. but my girl got this book that i think everyone in the military should read eventhough its for wemon. i think its called "married to the military". i may have the name wrong but its pink so it shoulding be that hard to miss. it reads about everything from military jargon to how you can get more benifits. its great. andif you plan on en listing dont forget to ask for a sign on bonus before you sing anything b/c they wont tell you about it until you ask.

I am active duty and I couldn't do the reserve thing. It seems like you get all the BS of being active and none of the advantages of ADONSA's, Benefits, houseing, leave just to name some of the advantages of being active. Besides, Reservist are be deployed more than anyone. Thank god for reservist!

If I were you I would only go in as a officer. From what I hear after 2 years out now you don't get to keep your rank. I meet someone last week that had to redo basic because he was out for more than 3 yrs.
