Anybody else do a non-traditional Thanksgiving feast?

My family never has much liked turkey and stuffing and all the traditional Thanksgiving feast items, so we use the holiday to experiment with different cuisines.
Last year was Italian, this year it's French.

This year's menu:
-Coq au Vin a la Bourguignonne
(chicken simmered in red wine with onions and mushrooms)

-Tarte a la Tomate
(cheese and tomato pie)

- Pommes de terre Dauphinoises
(scalloped potatoes with cheese

-Peches Cardinal
(poached peaches with raspberry puree)

-Souffle au Grand Marnier
(orange liqueur souffle)

Some of the guests are also bringing French side items and wine too. Should be fun.

Does anybody else avoid turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving?

So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breath deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

Had turkey last week at a work get together. Having another regular turkey feast the day before Thanksgiving, then on Thursday were having a nice big mesquite and oak smoked brisket that I'll spend about 10 hours cooking. I prefer the brisket

That sounds great! My work had the traditional turkey and trimmings last week too.
Next year I'm thinking Soul Food. Chicken fried steak, collard greens etc.

My wife's step-mother grew up without the turkey and stuff. This year for lunch we'll have pheasant and wild rice along with some other Turkey Day staples. Dinner will be with my mother-in-law traditional style.

When it is at my parents place it's tradition all the way. Last time we did it at my house I did one bird on the rotisserie with hickory smoke and fried another one that I had injected with hot wing sauce the night before.

There were no leftovers.

While we normally do the turkey thing, several years ago on Christmas morning the electronic control for the oven died in a shower of sparks and smoke, rendering every part of the stove inoperable.

We dined on a smorgasbord of venison, beef and honey garlic suasage, all cooked on the BBQ.

I grew up in a rural part of Oklahoma. My graduation class was 60 something. I was in the Army for a "few" years before I found out what "soul food" was.

Thinking back, it was a little odd that the Army served the same thing on Sunday's that mom used to.

That ain't Thanksgiving Dinner... no sir.

Turkey (fried and roasted for choice of course)
Ham (honey glazed on the bone)
Smothered deer roast (for those who want something a little wilder)
Dressing (real dressing, not the dry box crap)
Dirty rice (dirty south style)
Scalloped cheese potatoes
Green bean casserole
Sweet potato casserole (with enough brown sugar and melted marshmallows to smother a small Asian family)

Fresh baked rolls with butter
and
Pumpkin pie and pecan pie both with optional whipped cream

That's Thanksgiving

I'm thankful that I don't feel compelled to have a meal that I don't like just to be considered traditional. I'm also thankful that I have a broader culinary palate than you.
I did notice that you are having scalloped potatoes with cheese though. That's French you know.

Cornish game hen, stuffing with sausage and shallots, acorn squash, and green bean casserole. I would be happy with just the Green Bean Casserole but it just wouldn't be thanksgiving.
