Any Porsche guys here?

My girlfriend has been looking for a roadster as a fun summer toy, but just came across a seemingly good deal on a 1983 Porsche 944. I don't know anything about Porsches, so I have no clue what to look for in this thing. Any advice?

The car looks completely clean in the pictures. Here is the description...
"1983 Porsche 944 (non turbo) 4cly, 5spd trans, pop out roof, charcol gray ext. black int. with hounds to seats. In 07 had new seals put in the eng. timing belt, serp belt, hoses, water pump, cap&rotor, shocks and stuts. This car has been stored for the pass 2 years, just put back on the road monday."

They shouldn't have let the hounds get to the seats.

The 944 is the Liberty of the Porsche world. Don't say you weren't warned. Good cars, but it will never be a 911.

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

I don't know EVERYTHING about Porsches, but I can vouch for that.
That's why the 944 is one of the cheapest ones you can find...well, that and they are a dime a dozen.
At least they look decent...unlike the 928's.

How much were they asking? Sounds like she should get a Miata. Spare parts are cheap, and there are lots of aftermarket parts. Maybe an MR 2.

having to replace the pos clutch and its pos rubber clutch vibration pucks will cost more than you paid for the car.

they are very well balanced cars, great to drive, but our labor rate is $159/hr so plan on finding an independent shop as pretty much every job will require some kind of special tool to perform.

the miata is a much cheaper, and better suggestion, and this is coming from someone who works at a Porsche Dealer

That $159 an hour is a little expensive. Alger Ferrari rates are $129/hr for Ferrari or Maserati. What's up with that?

I had a 944 Turbo and a 928. They were fun little cars. I sold the 944 to get the 928 and then some ******* in a Chevy pickup totaled it in my driveway when he hit it after supposedly falling asleep at the wheel.

I've been trying to decide between a new or one-year-old 911 and the same MY BMW M5. I'll be picking up something early June.

two completely different vehicles with completely different purposes. Why not an m3, lotus, used Aston Martin, etc?

Yes they are. That is why I'm having a hard time deciding. I was thinking of an M3 coupe but if I go coupe I'm going with a 911. An M3 sedan is just going to make me want an M5. Lotus too small for me, AM I love the Vantage.

I've also considered a MB CLS 63, but my last Benz had a lot of problems.

have you driven the v8 M3? if not, you should do so, it may be the best car ever made, and I hate BMW's
