Any AV people?

Hey guys, I don't really know a lot about home audio so I have a few questions. My dad hates the tv in my parents bedroom, because it has white noise really bad. Its a westinghouse 32 flatscreen, been that way since day one. If you play with the sound settings you can get the whitenoise down, but by no means is it good. My question is would a soundbar fix this issue? My cousin suggested the idea, and said it would fix it. I would like to get him one for christmas, but Im not sure if that would be a good idea or not.

Is there any reason it would still expiereience problems with the soundbar?

Also we dont have HDTV, would that affect the performance of the soundbar?

And finally what would be a quality soundbar without breaking the bank? Im not looking for any special sound expierience, just something that will produce a clear sound with no white-noise so to speak. Thanks in advance

What are the thoughts on this sound bar?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/2-0-channel-soundbar/1775096.p?id=1219063712137&skuId=1775096&st=categoryid$abcat0205007&cp=1&lp=3

And yeah a know its a cheap ****ty TV, my mom was told it was a good buy and bought it on a whim. I dont have enough money for a new TV, but a 100 or so for a soundbar isnt out of the question.

It has no HDMI input only optical which isn't bad because opticals are the best for sound. This may be a problem though the TV may not have a optical output also cheapest you'll get the cord for from a store is $20, but trusty amazon has them for $5

Well there are two different sound bars one with a internal sub and one with a external. I'd prefer external because it will mean the low frequencies will sound better. Also for any sound bar I'd get a well known name brand like Samsung they have wonderful customer support and their quality will be better then a brand you've never heard of. That lg would be a decent sound bar on a budget

Lots of questions.

What's the source for the TV you parents are watching?
Cable box?
Antenna?

Anything like a DVD player coming into play here?

If multiple sources, is there white noise on all of them?

What do you mean source? I thought the hamster inside the TV was what powered the signal. The more hamsters=more channels.

Its a cable box, no dvd player. Its the tv speakers thats the problem every other tv is fine.

Does this 32" dream of a Westinghouse TV have an optical output? I'm assuming the Cable box doesn't since it's non HD.

Does the Cable box have composite(rca) outputs?
