Android phones

Alright ladies, I'm switching back to the darkside. My iphone 4 is starting to take a dump and is noticeably getting slower with time. I have an upgrade in January and I absolutely hate what they did with the iPhone 5 and iOS6 just aggravates me to no end. So it's time to switch back, hopefully for good. I'm staying with verizon so it leaves me with 2 options, the Droid DNA (HTC) or the Galaxy S3.

What say you JF?

FWIW, I've played with both phones a little bit (until the HTC guy at the store starting doing his sales pitch ) and I still can't decide.

i personally consider both to be too big for my tastes... great specs but i'm tired of high end phones getting increasingly large screens...

Yeah the 5 inch screen on the dna is a little much but i have big hands and the iphone is too small and surprisingly the s3 and dna fit well. Though one hand usage with dna is a little weird.

I have an HTC Sensation running Android 4.0. My wife has a Windows phone. As soon as my upgrade comes up I am jumping all over a Windows phone; probably a high end Lumia. Windows is so stable, and everything is super intuitive. And no, that last part is not meant to be a joke.

I played with a couple, they are cool for sure but the OS just isn't my style. The high end lumias are very nice though.

I have the Motorola Bionic and the hubby has the HTC Rezound. Love them both. Check out Droid forums to compare the ones you want though, lots of great info.

I recommend staying away from the "Flagship" Android phones and sticking with a Nexus phone. Because they are the reference phones pretty much everything works for them. They aren't HUGE like some of the flagship phones, but are still a respectable size. Also, you don't have to put up with the inane 3rd party skins that the handset makers put on the other phones. Android Jelly Bean is so excellent on it's own it doesn't need any "help" from the handset maker, and most of the 3rd party skins feel like a downgrade compared to the stock UI.

Additionally, you will get updates in a more timely manner than you will with the other handsets. Although being on Verizon, getting updates at all is a crapshoot. Sprint is a bit better, but not much. If you want to have an updated phone you have to get off a CDMA/LTE carrier and onto a GSM/HSPA+ one. However, if you are committed to staying with Verizon, (or locked in a contract) then go with the Galaxy Nexus. This is the phone I have, it's a great phone. With a 4 inch screen it's a good size, but not too big and is the PURE UNDILUTED Android experience. I highly recommend it.

I'm not sure I will ever understand the need for a 1080p 5 inch screen. How is it practical to have that many pixels in that small of a space?

I have the S3 and I LOVE it. battery will last me a good 2-3 days if all I do is check twitter, email, surf the web a little bit and stay away from youtube. If I get on youtube during the day, I could probably make it a little over 1 full day, but I usually have to charge my phone every other night.
The DNA is an awesome phone, but battery life is def an issue. someone else said the nexus phone....that phone is killer!
I know that the DNA is quad core, but dual core does plenty all by itself....if you have to choose between those 2 phones, I'd go S3.

I have an S3, It just got updated to jellybean and I like it a lot better.

No real complaints with the phone, I'm not some super hardcore user but on average 60-70% battery life by then end of the day. if I don't touch it all day it only loses maybe 5% battery. I still charge it every night though. It takes good pictures, sends emails, texts and calls which is all I really do with it just fine.

If you don't like the S3 the Razr maxx was my second choice. Apparently it has an amazing battery life. It wasn't out yet when I got my S3 but in the end I'm happy with my Galaxy.
