Americans

Do you guys have a military international response team to respond to natural disasters and emergencies? I know there is USAID but I beleive thats a non-military organization that is primarly a way of controling all the NGOs

No. Not one that is dedicated for that mission.

They do more, but emergencies and national disasters fall within their duties.

No we do not, we have civilian teams, but no military with that as a primary mision. It is the same reason that the Coast Guard is under the Dept of Transportation (boarding a foriegn flag vessel with a military force with out permision from ________ country is an act of war) and not the DoD. To many sticky issues and politics involved.

And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.

Is there a team of people who its not their primary job but respond to disasters? (In other words who responds when countries ask the US for aid in a disaster situation)

thanks captain obvious but many militaries have special teams or units that are specifically tasked with responding to natural disasters or emergencies (such as the Canadian militaries Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), a group of 200 people from the air force, army, and navy including medics, doctors, engineers, and security personel. They go to disaster torn area usually deploy withing 72 hours and will stay for upto 40 days to provide initial aid. They provide medical aid but no surgery, engineers clean water rebuild roads and bridges, restore power and water suply systems as well as help hospitals and schools rebuild. They were formed in 96 after Rwanda and have conducted 4 major missions and are based out of Kingston and Trenton Ontario. Currently they are in the process of getting their own stratigic lift aircraft that will be available to them whenever they want and when not working for them will help suply Canada and the US in Afghanistan and Iraq.)

Wasnt looking for a smart *** answer, just wanted to know who responds for the americans to these type of situations

By the way, Frumpy, you being from Canada...you make sure you address any American with a smile and solute. Canada is about a 1/2 a step in front of France in my book.
