american diet

i received this in an email and i was wondering if there is any truth to it?
if so , maybe stress is the blame.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4 The Italians drink a lot of red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5.. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION.....

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

That's pretty good.

(In reality, I'd bet that exercise is probably our issue though )

I have never really thought about it this way but what amazes me is the Chinese people that live very long lives and are still perfectly healthy and capable even during their last years.

Do a search on fluoride in the water; we're one of the last nations to do it....

Safety fast, Bill

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.- Helen Keller

Yeah, it's scary. But it's good for your teeth (sarcasm)

Luckily I have well water.

I would say its probably due to the fact that we eat a ridiculous amount of cholesterol and drive around the parking lot for 20 minutes just to avoid a 5 minute walk from the spots far away from the store.

I can't bear the thought of losing, I dread the attention winning brings

I think its more about quantity of intake rather than the actual foods you eat. Try this experiment sometime: Tell some complete stranger (gas station attendant or something like that) you are from out of town and are looking for a good restaurant. In my experience, most of the time the person asked will tell you how good the restaurant is because of the size of the portions, the actual quality of the food seems to be irrelevant.

A guy I work with swears it's high fructose corn syrup. We don't use real sugar anymore. He says the weight epidemic coincides with everyone replacing sugar with high fructose corn syrup. I think the fact that we are sitting in front of computers and TV's more can't be good either......

But the difference is that, when comparing longevity worldwide, Americans have some of the longest lifespans in the world, much better than many other major countries. So remember that the next time someone complains about your diet and healthcare. American longevity is increasing due to the increased focus on diet concerns and healthcare. We're gradually moving up towards the number one position.

you guys make some great points and maybe all the factors stated play into this. and living a long time is only good if your quality of life is good. if we didnt have the medicines we do ,i think we would being going the other way. instead of stopping the cause we tend to treat the symptoms
