Am I crazy?

I'm seriously considering a conspiracy here, I've been trying for the past 6 weeks to buy ammo 9mm or .45 from my 3 local walmart stores. I go in atleast twice a week and never find so much as a box of shells. Is there something going on I'm not aware of. Another example, I went out to cheaperthandirt.com to try and buy some online, I put in 9mm and out of the 113 different 9mm purchases you could buy 107 of them were out of stock. The only things available besides the crap wolf ammo was blanks. WTF, seriously are there that many people buying up ammo, or is there something more sinister going on.

Does the government know that they can't ban handguns after the Heller dicision, so they do the next best thing, they limit the supply of ammo? Are they secretly subsidizing the ammo companies to slow production? I don't know, I'm just finding it very wierd that I can't seem to find a freakin box of shells anywhere to go shoot at the range. I've got my 500rds of 9mm and 500 of .45 but that's my storage ammo that I don't want to get into incase of a total social order breakdown or zombie outbreak. I just want to go to the range man...where are you guys finding ammo, oh yea and am I crazy or is there something to this?

Yes there is a conspiracy, or Yes I'm crazy, I do know the second part is a given, but any thoughts on the first.

I've been trying to logically play it out and I guess it could make sense that since gun sales have quadrupled in the past 6 months that there are more people buying ammo than before, but it just seems that if there is that much of a demand that manufacturers would be able to keep up and supply more, right?

Our mechanic at the shop has a gun dealer license (buys sells and builds guns) and has had a heck of a time trying to find guns of almost any kind. Primers, powder and shells are ridiculous...when you do find them, they have gone sky high. People are buying it all up, it is crazy all right. If someone has guns that they want to sell...the market is high right now...thanks to the liberals.

Fixed that for you. The only gun legislation that's even been considered is the assault weapons ban, which isn't a new idea. This whole "Obama's gunna take our guns!!!1!" nonsense is just that -- nonsense. And a whole lot of people are making a whole lot of money off of perpetuating that nonsense.

So your theory is that people are just buying up the stock of ammo and manufacturers aren't able to keep up?

I see what you are saying, but at the same time, it's not really hysteria when you look at where he came from and how our state currently is here in IL. It's about as anti gun as you can get and still be constitutional, if we actually are still. It's really not that hard to make the leap. I don't see a full out banning of all guns, and I don't think anyones going to come to my house and take my guns from me (atleast not if they are smart), but I do see them taxing the hell out of ammo, and making it real hard to get anything. If they can't ban it, they will do as much as possible to make it very difficult to obtain anything. Just the way I'm seeing it.

It is kinda like the democrats trying to make the Bush admin. look as bad as possible. The only chance (except for the help from the media and allowing voter fraud, along with some other crap) was to create a major economic crisis, so by bringing on all the doom and gloom (the sky is falling) had a major impact. With the libs getting so much control...libs hate guns...it does not suprise me a bit. If the libs started crying about mud tires destroying the environment and wanted to eliminate them, do you think that people would start stocking up on them? It would help the tire manufacturers and dealers but would hurt the consumers.

DOD is making manufacturers scrap the brass instead of reusing the old casings:
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=144499&highlight=brass

In our local 4-wheeling/shooting forum there are tons of posts on laws/rules being passed against gun owners and about members buying tons of ammo:
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=62

Another example, Obama is floating an "idea" to ban imported ammo - leaving domestically produced ammo as the only stuff available.

Nothing but trouble from Obama regarding guns

Its hard to find rounds everywhere. I went down to Bass Pro in Nashville and they had more on the shelf than anybody local has in almost 4 months. Needless to say I brought some back with me.

Oh and Ken.......you're not that crazy

I was having the same issue finding .45 ammo. I just kept checking the stores and got lucky one night and Walmart just got a shipment in. I bought all 700 rounds they had on the shelf. Now I'm good on ammo for awhile.

Everyone I spoke with said the same thing, that a lot of people are feeding off of stories of these guns/ammo bans and are just buying up all they can. For me the 700 rounds I purchased and the 100 I still had in the safe will last me for a good while.

I've been entertaining this idea quite a bit. I looked into it and the initial cost scares me a little because with the talk of the whole serialized ammo bill that's being proposed, it would be illegal to own non serialized ammo. I don't know if that will pass, but I didn't want to invest in something like that only to have them tell me I can't do it in 6 months.

So it's sounding like the general consensus is that it's just being bought up as soon as it hits the shelves and I'm just not timing my trips to wally world at the right time...ok, I feel better now
