Ahh What a year,Laid off,Then Hurt at work,Then Fired,Then...

Yup thats been my year. Bought my 1st home in March, April 8th I was laid off from work. I got hired as a Diesel Mech/Apprentice and the owner turned into a psycho killer. I found another job with a good company making stainless steel tubing that paid well. I got hurt there on Oct 1st breaking my ankle. They denied my claim and I have been without a check since then.(Currently awaiting a comp hearing)

I get released to work,That very day Nov 9th. As i handed in my release papers to return to work. They tell me I am fired. No real reason,Just that. When I got hurt the HR Guy told me that the company would have to consider when I am released if they wanted someone on the payroll with a bum ankle.

So I go out job hunting all over again and consider going to school for IT tech. I get a call today to come in for an interview at this place that makes piping for wells, and water lines. Pays 7 more bucks an hour then I was making at the tube place..

Had the interview at 11, They called me at 1:30 and offered me the job. I start monday.

Thats been my year!!!

If you were in NY I'm so driving down there, and be an ahole customer without telling you who I am.

LOL... well hopefully I will win my comp and get a wrongful termination lawsuit as well. That would pay for a nice Jeep That sux Ice Queen. I was very close to calling it quits and just going back to School. Problem is I am 32,and I have a mortgage now. This place starts off at 36k a year. Which isnt too shabby for only 10 miles from home. I am hoping this works out or I am off to school.

over the years Iv learned getting laid off ended up being the best thing that ever happend to me, not at first, but each time found a better place to work and more money, but Iv only been laid off twice.

As for being hurt, it happand to me too. bust out my knee, a few weeks later when I got the return to work sheet, I was moved to the morning shift with half the money.

I could not imagine being 32 and trying to figure out what I wanted to do, or where I could work.

What did you do from 18-now?

All the great success stories are NEVER they were a booming success at the first thing they put their hand to. It is always getting fired, laid off, injured, failure, rejection. But they never give up.

Been a hard road for me. My first job after I got out of school, company went out of business after working there 2 years. Then went to work for a freaking psycho. Lasted a month, found another job in the same line of work. Couldn't wait to get out of that place! Found out my new boss was psycho man's brother-in-law! DoH!!!! Worked there 2 months and got laid off because business was slow. I interviewed at another place and worked there for 3 years. Got a dream job offer. Going to work for one of the big electronics manufacturers. Worked my arse off, got laid off. Was out of work for a couple months after that. Was feeling lower than dirt, wouldn't be able to make next month's rent. Got a call back for a interview at a place I applied. Worked there for 3 years and got fired because a coworker I thought was my friend was stealing out of the cash register and told the boss I was doing it. Next job was out of the blue. Heard about a company hiring electronic techs, needed video display experience. That was me. Interviews, got the job. Worked there for 10 years. That evolved into a career in document imaging. A head hunter for the company I work for now gave me a call and offered me a job. They booked me a plane flight to their corporate offices to interview. I was offered the job on the ride back to the airport. WOW. Feel like star treatment for a guy that felt like I couldn't hold a job early on.
The job title is senior system engineer. I support subcontractor field engineers on documents imaging equipment. And I have the pleasure of doing it all from home.
There was a point where I just wanted to give up. I'm glad I never did.

Ahh... 18? I wish. I started working since 13,Full time since 17. Had my own apartment while I was a senior in high school. I have always worked. But when I was 20 I became a raging alcoholic. That was for 7 years and I couldnt really hold anything more then a cook/kitchen job. I got sober 5+ years ago in 2002. So basically I had to start over. I have a semi-successful towing business that I plan to have gone commercial with it within 5 years. But for now I am working for the man. I am glad I went through the lessons I did in life when I did. These are just bumps in the road. 36k a year may not sound like alot of money to some people ,but in my area its middle class. And my fiancee makes more then that. So together we are doing well.

Dr Righteous said it well. Try not to plan TOO hard your entire life like map. It will never go EXACTLY as planned but hopefully close to what you want. This year has been crazy and I did get approved for a small business loan. Enough to buy 2 Newer wreckers and the licenses needed to do AAA and recovery towing. I need to save save save money though and then I will get the loan. it takes time but hopefully with enough determination in 5 years I will have my own business.
