440 Duster Update! !! Radiator is in !! PICS
Over the course of the past couple of years I have been working on rebuilding my '74 Duster.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have swapped in a 440/727 and have been slowly hammering out the details. I still have a lot of work to do before I fire it up for the first time but this last weekend I was able to make one step forward. I slipped my orginal radiator back in the core support for the first time in years to staredt measureing and getting an idea for what I wanted. ![]() ![]() This is when my family stepped in, with the help of my father we were able to track down a new radiator for a big block '70 Fury. The details were a little sketchy at first but we took a chance and went for it. The inlet and outlet was in the correct place anyway. We could have had the old one recored and the inlets and outlets moved but we found this radiator on a deal. Well it shows up and it looks great! (compared to my old one.) ![]() Except the mounts are tottaly different. So we had a couple of options but we ended up fabbing on our own mounts. (Thanks to my dad who did most of the work

Which gets us to here...
![]() ![]() With some crafty measureing and careful placement we were able to trim and modify the factory shroud from the original radiator to fit the bigger radiator. Thanks again to my fater who worked on this while I was stuck at work... It looks like the radiator in my brothers '70 barracuda would bolt right in place of my old radiator, but since we couldn't get ahold of one; we were able to use his for ALOT of references. Actually I ended up using a set of radiator hoses for a '70 383 Barracuda, we had to trim about 3/4" off of the radiator side of the hose. The top hose fit great, the bottom one is a little too close to the end of the strut rod so it may come out at a later date for a little modification itself. Same goes for the fan and clutch, I actually grabbed up my brothers spare fan and clutch (He plays with them through out the year, swapping fans and clutches through out the year seeing what works and what doesn't). We ended up with about 3/4" between the fan clutch and the radiator, I can almost get my hand inbetween them but not just. The radiator cap is a spare we dug up looking for my original resevior which with just a little bit of "adjustment" will be reused again. There is still a ton of stuff to do to this poor car so please cut me some slack... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Though some of you would be interested in it...
