Personally, I love it. It's exactly the DD I wanted. It'll carry everything I move on a regular basis, it'll run in any weather, it'll be great on gas, it'll handle rough roads and light trails and, hopefully, it'll be cheap. It's the perfect vehicle to keep miles off my 'real' Jeep.
I second this and Im sure there will come mods for it. Is the 1.4L a turbo diesel? If not, they would be silly not to put a diesel in one of these smaller Jeeps alongside the JK, which would have a bigger diesel.

No, it's a gasser, sadly.

Overseas markets will have access to 1.6L and 2.0L Fiat turbo diesel engines, but those engines aren't currently built to North American emissions spec. However, they're both nearing the end of their lifecycles, and their replacements should be built to be NA-ready, so expect a mid-cycle refresh offering a diesel option for North America, similar to how the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 received their diesels.

I'd like you to show me one car that actually lives up to its heritage.

Jeep (fiat) doesn't care about the old elitists that don't buy any care made after 1960. They care about TODAY'S market.

Of course it's not going to resemble the old CJ era, why would it?

The new Dodge Challenger comes close, as do the newer Mustangs. Obviously they can't live up to their heritage entirely because of safety issues, but those 2 are close to their roots.

That "Renegade" does not even have a removable top, it should be called the Cherokee Mini or something more fitting like that. Now if Jeep decided to make a Renegade package for the Wrangler, that would be about as close as it gets to heritage and would probably sell better anyways because the Wrangler is the bread and butter of the current lineup hands down.

that thing is awesome.

but... the 91 YJ already killed it. the name was "ruined" a long, long time ago. anything is better! even a re-badged CR-V actually, the white walls do kinda say "street jeep" anyway (to me...anyone else?)

I'm actually kinda happy they didn't try to slap that name on some wrangler... I think everyone would've been scrutinizing it that much harder. as a new Jeep vehicle line, it can make it's own market....

I think I'll gladly trade my jetta DD for a jeep that's *gasp* good on gas.

I don't see what most of your points are. Why would they make something exactly like a car that's 30-60 years old? Thats stupid. The wrangler is the only "real" jeep left and I doubt it'll last too much longer. You have no idea how the car industry works if you think jeep will actually make something like the old renegade or wagoneer. Those days are past, get over it.

If you're looking to pick a fight, I could give a rats *** tough guy. It's an opinion. I never claimed to know "how the car industry works". You obviously think you do. Congratulations.

It's cool if you like the new Renegade. I won't judge. I'm sure you'll look cute driving one.

Oh yeah, you're right. I've totally forgotten about the YJ version of the Renegade. That could of been better, but those awful body flares it had were just terrible. No idea who designed that, but it was awful.

x2 that's why antiques are so awesome, sought after, restored, and big $$!

anything they put out now has to come with ten airbags anyway, might as well make it good on gas and give it a fun name. just sayin'
