Hate the fact that the US didn't even medal but glad that Sid and Kunitz got Gold.

Now I'm ready for the Penguins to come to San Jose.

Go PENS

One good thing about kids who wake up at 530 everyday, I got to watch the game this morning.

**** the IOC.
I agree - total horse chit.

You know what you have to do, Canada.

The funny thing is, the gold and silver medals are both made of about 92% silver. One is just gold-plated.

What's everyone's prediction for the first major post-Olympic trade? I see Miller going to St. Louis.

What's funny is they didn't even get the best overall medal count. IIRC they came like 3rd and they keep saying #wearewinter. No Canada, I believe Russia is.

Why St. Louis? They don't have a need for a goalie

Russia is a beast with athletes; it's simply that the budget is not there for more sport. Also, Russia has 120 Million versus 320 Million for the US. People in the US are inundated with media images and stories that tell them they are to worship basketball and football (run and jump entertainers). We forget that athletes cover a very wide spectrum and in this spectrum are highly skilled adherents from Slavic, Nordic, and other nations; not just the Lebron James prototype that's broadcast 24/7 and with every shoe and Gatorade commercial.

Hockey requires far more technical competency combined with athleticism, as compared with the more basic football and basketball sports. I can take a group of kids or a circus bear and teach them/it to throw a ball through a hoop in a day's time; not so for covering even the basics in hockey.

I don't even know where to begin with this statement.

So you think all there is to basketball is throwing a ball through a hoop? I don't see how that's any different than shooting a puck in a net. I hate basketball and love hockey, but you are vastly over generalizing. Which I may be doing in my next statement. In the US, we have many sports to choose from and many distractions to be lazy with. Do you think Russia and even Canada have as many options? It's really amazing that USA does half as good as it does when our best atheletes rarely choose hockey or any other winter sport at a young age

I didn't write anything extraordinary. Sports like baseball and hockey require more technical competency than basketball ... they're simply sports that require a different skill-set and focus of coordination. Of course basketball is more than throwing a ball through a hoop, but I didn't want to write a two-page post about the various aspects of the sport.

Shooting a puck in a net is different than throwing a ball through a hoop in two obvious ways: (1) Basketball typically has 5 players on each team (in terms of being on the court during play) and NO GOALIE/NET MINDER. Hockey requires that a player beat a defensive player [whether forward/defensemen or both in a given play] and then also attempt to score against a guarded goal. (2) Basketball players aren't required to do any of the play-making while traveling at the velocity of hockey. Except for a small segment of society; the vast majority of people have an easier time standing or running on two feet, than they do moving at velocity and maintaining control of skates.

Same basis as why many say that hitting a baseball at 90+ mph is the hardest sport talent to master; harder than shooting a basketball, catching a football, or driving a golf ball.

I don't disagree with any of what you wrote. The Dutch speed skating coach even said as much - the USA would fair better in speed skating if so many of its athletes weren't dedicated to smashing each other in football.
