2005 Jeep Wrangler tj 4.0

My jeep won't let me physically put it in gear. I've flushed the slave cylinder twice. When I put it in gear and go to start it it just jumps forward and won't start. Please help me out.

Also my buddy said I should see if I could extend my slave cylinder rod but I have no clue how to do that
