1:10 scale R/C Crawler- TJ Willys Edition... a Build Thread.

So I dug up my old New Bright (quality stuff! ) Radio Control TJ Rubicon. It was a fun little Christmas gift given to me back in '04.

While the actual chassis and running gear are complete crap, the body on this thing is actually very detailed and to scale.

I'm on a tight budget and a total Newbie when it comes to RC Crawlers, but my plans are to put this body to use on a 1.9 or 2.2 scale crawler chassis (suggestions welcome)

While saving for a chassis and running gear, I'll be working on the body to make it a mini-me to my '04 Willys Edition. I have a spare can of body touch up paint, and plan to use some OD green Krylon for the fenders, rockers, etc.
I will also have some viynl decals cut to match my 1:1 rig's decals.

Here's some pics of disassembly:

The 'scrap pile'

The accurate and detailed interior pieces:

Some body shots, post sticker scraping but pre "Goo Gone" treatment:

Other than trimming the Bushwacker style pocket flares, I don't think I'll be making any mods to the body, but we'll see what happens!

That's a great scale project body. Here's some build pics of a crawler that I built around the New Bright Rubicon body. I have since sold it, but it was a fun project.

I'd definitely go 1.9 on this one. 2.2 tires will look huge. Not to mention the wheelbase is very short, which will make it handle poorly. If you have any questions, let me know. Maybe I can help.

^^^ That looks great! I'm glad I'm not out of my mind for trying this w/ this New Bright body. I'll have plenty of questions down the road, I'm sure.

Right now I'm going to focus on the body work and try to pick a chassis. I'm assuming a RTR kit would be no good for something like this.

Can someone post a link to where you can get these and the parts, bodies, suspensions, etc... Specifically something like that? ^

Update

I borrowed my girlfriend's camera so the pics are better quality this time around...

I krylon'd the body OD Green for a primer and then decided I had to chop the flares. After this post I'm going to sand it down some more and hit it with a final coat of OD.

Some more for the scrap pile...

I painted the seats too. I can't decide if I should attempt a camo job to match my seats or just do a 2-tone black and olive drab scheme.

So far I'm happy with how it's going. Trimming the flares was a ***** but they sanded down well to hide my blemishes and screw ups. I want to fill in the "exposed bolts" gaps but I'm not sure what to use. Some kind of epoxy maybe? Any modelers have an idea for me???
