Small Campers for Wranglers

I'm looking for a camper for my 2006 Unlimited. I've got two small children (under 8) and my wife. We are looking at the smaller Teardrop, which we'd simply use with a tent as it's the lightest choice (we're rugged enough to make that work).

Here are the top contenders:

GoLittleGuy Teardrop (5 foot with Platform):
I've considered the 6 foot wide platform, but it's nearly a foot wider than my Wrangler, and I'm not sure I like that idea.

The T@B Teardrop - bigger, maybe too big:

Or this neat one, the Cikira RV:

The last two are awfully close to the 3,500 pound tow rating of the Wrangler Unlimited (TJ). Do any of you care to comment on these campers? I'd love to hear from folks that have either tried them, or own them.

Thanks! And let me know if this should be in a different forum subject.

The little guy trailers would be to small if you ask me. Out of the other 2 I like the T@B. It has more character than the last one.

Why a camper, and a tent? What about something like the adventure trailer line of tent trailers.

It has a tent up off of the ground and also has space for gear under the tent. It all folds up. It will follow your jeep anywhere you want to go.

Have you ever heard of an A-Liner? Its a really cool version of a pop-up camper... A friend of mine has one with about a 2500 lb. dry wt...
Her A-Liner includes AC, stove and outside shower, plus small fridge and microwave... Downside is they are a bit pricey, depending on the model you decide upon...

Yeah I take it scratches have scratches!!!

4.0, auto,
4" rough country lift,
33" baja claws,
black 15" crawler rims,
more mods as budget allows...

A Teardrop is way too small.

An Aliner is way too expensive.

Shop around for a used Apache. They have hard sides, yet fold. The larger Roamer, Royal and Ramada are 1840 lbs empty. The smaller Mesa is about 1400 lbs. I have a Roamer. It sleeps 8, has a 3 burner stove, and 3 way fridge.

Jumping Jack trailers are sweet. Super fast and easy. I use one for hunting and camping. But I must say the adventure trailer is pretty amazing looking.

I'm planning on picking up a Fleetwood Cobalt in a couple of weeks. Plenty light enough for an LJ.

word is Little Guy has nearly completed an off-road teardrop, specifically designed for Wrangler - it comes equipped with super suspension and even "Jeep Tires"

It is to be revealed at an upcoming outdoors show somewhere...when I get more info, I will share. This could be a really cool thing (if you like to off road)

Personally if you aren't towing it offroad. i would go with the Cikira. Your wife will thank you for getting one with a bathroom. Also you will get tired of putting a tent or pop-up up and down. Especially if it is raining the first couple times you use it like it was when I got mine.

I have a cikira 13cc and love it. It has electric brakes and towing it with the Wrangler is fine.

Hey these are GREAT suggestions, thank you.

I'd LOVE to see that offroad "GoLittleGuy".

I've recently checked out the TADA trailer from the folks at T@B. It's pretty nice overall and it weighed in at 2100 lbs.

ok...I was entirely wrong.

It was the annual Red Rock 4-Wheeling Event at Moab. I made contact with Little Guy's Director of Development to ask some questions and he sent me this link to a slide show.

He told me they aren't in production...I guess it was just a prototype, for now anyway. I say we go to their website an send them information requests so they are so overloaded, they simply MUST begin production!!

Okay, this is "close" to what I've been looking for and a local dealer. Thanks for the post on the Little Guy. Yet, the price. I'd rather go with a tentrax (looks) and pay about the same.

I looked for a camper for over a year. I finally found one that was light enought for me to tow with my LJ. It weighs 2700lbs empty, 3000 with options.
