primitive camping in New England

Hey guys,
this weekend me and a friend of mine are planning on going backpacking/camping. We are both experienced hikers and are looking to try out primitive camping. As far as I can tell primitive camping is allowed in most state forests. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what forests to look into?
