Laws on maximum wait time vs. actual wait time to recieve CCW
So I sent in my application for my CCW permit here in Indiana back on January 7th or so. Supposedly wait time is supposed to be 4-8 weeks, I have yet to receive anything yet, which really doesn't surprise me. By law you in Indiana, it can't take longer than 60 days for your permit application to be approved or denied, but I heard of people waiting more than 4 months. So what the heck is up with that? I don't want to wait 4 months or more for this, especially if its on the books that it is should be decided in no more than 60 days. I honestly don't understand what takes so long

I got mine in a few weeks. Here in VA, if your permit application has not been approved/denied within 45 days, the court will issue you a temporary permit until the application goes through

I am in NY and it took me about 3 months to get it. If they did not approve you, they have to give you a reason in writing stating why not. good luck and if you need, call up the judge.

Thanks for the responses guys, if they don't respond in the 60 days, I'll try to figure out who to call and ask about it but I would have no idea who that is . I'm not sure why they would not approve me, Indiana is pretty easy to get a permit in, you don't even need a class. The only thing on my record is a stupid "speed contest" thing from 2007 (talk about BS, who in their right mind would race anyone in a TJ ) which would not be grounds for denial and that actually is supposed to be off my record in a few days anyway

I live in a relitively small town. I was the 50TH PERSON that day to get fingerprinted for concealed carry! Just be paitent, the whole country is backed up right now.

Yeah I figured the election now doubt had a lot to do with it. I'm glad Indiana offers a lifetime permit though, that way if and when it finally does come I wont have to deal with any of it again every 5 years

I carried that recipt until it detererated beyond readable, so I applied again in 1999. I still have that recipt but no card yet. The recipt that I carry now just says that the card will be sent to my address within 30 days.

Yeah I just have a feeling that if it takes longer than 60 days, even if I make a big stink about it and how the laws says it must be completed in 60 days, somehow nobody is going to care much and they will still take their sweet time to get it back to me. I honestly cant imagine what takes so long, I'm not sure how it is in other states, but in Indiana I went to the local police station, got fingerprinted and filled out a form and they did a background check, and then I come back two days later to get the form (apparently it takes two days to do the background check or something, who knows) then I send it off to the state police. What I don't get is what takes 8 weeks for the state police to run a quick background check and send me a piece of paper in the mail I definitely am glad they do background checks and what not, but this just seems like an unnecessary amount of time , haha I guess I'm just frustrated.

on day 60 call up the court (or wherever you applied at) and they may issue you a temp. permit.

My IN permit as I recall about took the full 8 weeks. However when I renewed after the first four years, it only took a couple of weeks to show up. Next summer I am going to upgrade to the lifetime permit.
Also, Dmcastino get the book below and read it. It's written by our state's top defense lawyer about Indiana gun laws and what you need to be aware of. I heard him talk at the Eagle Creek range two summers ago. It's a must read. Plus there is a retired LEO in Shelby County that runs an excellent NRA personal protection class if you are interested. I put my wife through the course when we were first married and obtained our permits. I took it with her and it was worth it.

Thanks for the tip on the book, I'll definitely have too look that up, hopefully the library here at school will have it. I definitely already have some questions about some of the fine details so that would be a good resource for sure.

Not sure if anyone cares, but this section of JF doesn't see a whole lot of action so I figure there is no harm in me updating this thread. I ended up getting my permit in the mail day 59 of 60 allowed days so all is good! I am a little upset to find out I pretty much can't carry anywhere in my current residence as it seems that the vast majority of the town is considered campus property
