Late season Elk in Colorado

Here are a few pics of the Bull Elk that I shot on Jan 6th on a late season hunt here in Colorado. This bull is a 5x6 with 4 foot main beams. He is pushing the 300 class in Boon and Crocket. Oh yea, by the way this is my first antlered bull. I have shot pleanty of cows.

I can not begin to tell you how jealous I am. I hiked about 12 miles after a 5 hour drive in November to only see cows.

I saw a pretty big bull on private land, but couldn't find them on public land.

Were you on public or private? SW? NW?

Congratulations! There's nothing better than an elk hunt here in Colorado, even if you don't put one on the ground.

Did you hunt private or public land?

Area 20? Or is that your little secret.

Very nice Elk, I hope you weren't too far from the Jeep.

Yes it was area 20. It was between Drake and Glen Haven on Triangle Mountain. And no its not a secret. I would send anyone that wants to know about it too. It will take about 4 or 5 preference points to draw this area.

Thanks for sharing that info! You are a true sportsman. I have been elk hunting 3 years in a row, walked about 35 total miles through the woods/mountains and have only seen cows and one spike bull on public land.
