Indiana
I was wondering if anyone knew of any non-tourist places to go in Indiana that are beautiful where me and the girl could drink wine or cook out etc. I haul out my trash so spread the love.

If you're from around Indy I'd go to Shades State Park which is west of Indy. They have a really nice trail east of the park that is the "nature preserve" and it's a nice non-tourist hike. A lot better than Turkey Run.

Spring Mill is kind of a trump card... bring your woman to the amazing restaurants in
Bloomington and then to a night at the resort-quality hotel (inside-outside pool, etc.) down by Bedford. Caves, trail... hard to beat. Though, I am rather fond of Versailles. No Bloomington nearby, but ... well, OK, I guess it's just that it encompasses Hasser Hill. Go to Spring Mill. Of course, Summit Lake is withing striking distance of Hagerstown. I presume since you live in Indiana, you know of Wellievers. Hrm... I think I'm missing my native land.... Nothing another 20-minute run up into the mountains won't cure. |

Madison Indiana is a cool place. I live 45mins away. Great Historic downtown, Nice State park, Clifty Falls. Right on the river. Ten mins away is Hanover College. There's some view of the Ohio River you won't find anywhere else.
20mins east of Madison is a town call Vevay. They have some thing call Swiss Wine Festival. I think it's closer to the fall though.

The Hoosier National Forest is awesome. Go find the free camping. There are roads that have camping spot all along them. If you know where to look you can find campsites right by these cool little ponds. Pick up an Indiana Gazetteer. I like to go back packing in the Charles Deam Wilderness. Directly south of that you can find some sweet primitive camping with no running water, out houses, and few people (especially before it gets very warm).
