1911 Handguns

I'm looking to buy a handgun, a 1911 model specifically. I'm interested in Springfield 1911-A1 GI.45 or a Taurus 1911. From what I can tell these are two good quality handguns for a reasonable price. Anybody have any experience with either of these two or own one and give me their opinion? Thanks

I hear the Taurus is a pretty good value and that the Springfield A1-GI is a nice pistol, but no firsthand experience with either. I carry a Kimber Pro Carry II.

I have a Springfield that I bought a few years ago. They no longer offer it, but it was just one step above the Mil-Spec (the only differences are combat sights and hollow hammer, as I recall...)
I'm very happy with mine, and was happy with it right out of the box. I've since had a little work done (match bushing, barrel, guide and spring, and a trigger job.) Now, it out-shoots most .45's that I've ever gotten my hands on.

I had money on the GI model but upgraded to the "loaded" model. It has all the bells and whistles on it. i lightened the trigger to 4.5lbs and added a magwell. I have not had a jam or malfunction. Springfields are great guns for the money.

Rather than a Taurus you might try a Rock Island Armory 1911. I love mine. They are by far the best "value" 1911 out there. You can get a standard GI model for just under $400 or a "tactical" model for around $450.

FYI, your sling is on upside down.

I know. I had just finished reassembling it and put the sling on w/o thinking about it much. It is since fixed. Kinda ruins an otherwise great shot.

Either of those are good. The Springfield GI would be a great first 1911 model to shoot and learn with, I love the look of that model. I havent shot the Taurus yet but it's got some great reviews. You wont go wrong with any of the big name 1911's.

Kimber, Springfield, Charles Daly and Wilson combat here. Don't really like the Taurus. Not because it's a bad pistol just personal preference.

If you really want to be different, grab a Norinco 1911-style handgun. It's a good gun but you can also send it off to have it worked by Wilson Combat after you have fully bitten by the 1911 bug (can't do that with a Taurus).

Well, at least you don't have it running through the stacking swivel like I've seen some brainiacs do.

I'd get the Taurus if I wanted a good shooting gun to shoot and not baby. I'd get a Colt if I wanted a gun safe jewel and investment piece.
