“That car was unfit for human consumption,” Marchionne said of the Commander. “We sold some. But I don’t know why people bought them.”

Quote from Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne

Thats why they don't make them anymore

It's unfortunate but I think the gas mileage and a general unfavorable view of Chrysler was the killer. There was a lot of competition in the large 7-seater SUV market and the Commander just couldn't compete.

I personally don't like the look of stock XK's... but 2" lift with slightly larger tires and they're one of my favorite looking Jeeps. It's a shame in a way since it's an extremely capable Jeep product; especially when equipped with the 5.7L, tow package and QD-II it's one of the best "all around" jeep products IMO (offroad/towing/capacity).

Glad I have one of the "few" and relatively low miles. I've thought about trying to find a 2010 but most have even more miles than I have right now.

I agree that it's the ultimate jeep. (After some help with a few mods) it was my understanding that it was discontinued because the Durango was to continue as chryslers 7 passenger SUV.

Whilst I look at mine and agree its a cool car, imho they're kinda crap as their practicality as a 7 seater; which IS its intended market is poor. The 2nd row leg room is less than a GC to make room for the 3rd row, and the 3rd is a struggle to get into and coz the 3rd row folds onto the floor you lose boot space. Simply put IMHO it should have been a bigger vehicle, with more interior room.

None of which I care about coz I bought mine based on its looks only and is mostly driven with just me in it

I've used the 3rd row a few times (selected DD for "date nights") and its not that bad. Adults aren't going to ride back there for long trips..... but when its time to scoot my kids and their friends around to soccer & baseball practice, i'll throw their gear on the roof rack and load up my non-minivan

But yes, overall for a 7 seater, there are bigger more comfortable SUVs that get better gas mileage as well. The XK was way too much of a niche market.

With baby #3 on the way I'm actually looking into a Suburban for our main vehicle so I can relieve my XK from its DD duties... go back to a wheeler/fun jeep. A 5.3L 6L80E suburban will haul a lot more than the XK and get better city/highway gas mileage. My biggest dillemma will turn into which vehicle do i bring for our OBX vacation

I took the third row out and built a storage box to fill the void

Just did this as well. Great modification for those of us that don't use third row.

I did mine a bit differently. Added a lock and a fancy wooden stick to prop it up.
