WK Suspension Observation

Now I have always hated how the suspension in my WK 3.7 laredo felt, but I've complained about it a few times and people always said hey it's a Jeep that's how they feel get used to it.

Anyway, I was fortunate enough to purchase a new Wrangler sport a few days ago and holy crap I love how it feels. It is firm but very comfortable. It absorbs crappy roads so well. Roads where my WK is bouncing side to side and jarring my teeth the Wrangler takes like nothing.

So what can I assume? That my WK suspension is shot? It has 60k miles on it now, but I am pretty sure it has always felt like this.

Will going with an OME kit fix my complaints?

Cheers!

i just changed struts/ shocks on my '05 WK because it was doing the '70's Buick bounce!! Felt like you were on the high seas!! Anyway, now that I changed out the struts/ shocks, this thing is beyond STIFF!! Holy crap, its stiff enough now that certain bumps will send the rear end jumping side to side. I went with KYB shocks mainly because a lot of guys on here said that the Bilsteins were even stiffer. i don't have a lift on mine, so I can't answer that question, but I guess its just the nature of the beast.

OME HD stiffened up my ride significantly. It's too stiff for some so you might want to get the MD with the 3.7

Is it a known thing that the suspension on the WK is complete ****? I have not owned that many Jeeps or SUVs but I mean holy crap this thing is terrible over bad bumps.

If you put Biltein MD's on the ride will improve 100%. I prefer a stiffer ride, so I have HD's. They are very stiff, but nothing like the MLL's I have in the rear. It's all up to personal preference but there are certainly ways to make the ride feel how you want it to.

OP, when was the last time you had an alignment done? A bad alignment can have a negative effect on handling. I noticed first hand after I removed and replaced my LCA's. my alignment was way off for 2 days and it caused it to behave very odd

Thanks Trax I had it alligned about 6 months ago when getting new tires. Idk if the previous owner really worked the suspension hard or if it is just too squishy for my tastes.

Hopefully the OME MD setup will fix my worries. I wanted to wait til I had more mileage on the stock suspension before upgrading but honestly something really doesn't feel right when comparing the ride to a JK Wrangler.

What tires and pressures are you running? Over inflated tires kill ride quality. The new JK probably has tire with a soft/comfy tread and properly inflated.... could make all the difference if your WK has some old worn ATs and over inflated

Agreed 100%. Quality tires that are properly inflated make a big difference.

I have the OME HD lift, bilsteins, removed swaybar, and love the ride!

My 07 WK, which I have had for about 7K miles now, feels about the same in terms of sway and wiggle, as the 97 ZJ I had before. I need to beef it up for trailer pulling, so I'm about to install Bilsteins all around, an Addco rear sway bar, and some airbags. Everything I've read here indicates this is gonna do the trick for me. (no lift, 2WD). I'll know Fer Shure in a couple of weeks

Your JK rides much better because the full frame isolates the bumps better. There is really no comparison. Apples/oranges.

I always thought the stock suspension on my 07 was too soft as compared to my 98 ZJ with Bilsteins. Eventually the 07 will get Bilsteins too.

OEM shocks are hydraulic. Mine were shot at 50,000 miles (all 4 and some were leaking). New shocks made it much better.

Recommend monotube gas shocks over twin tube gas or stock '08 hydraulics.

At your mileage, everything else is likely OK. Goodyear Fortera XL at 33 pig are definitely factory comfort tires.
