WK Rear Bumper - Upgrade Replacement

Hello all, new to forums here. Did quick search for existing thread with no luck, so if there is one please re-direct....

I am looking for a rear bumper upgrade for my 2005 Jeep WK Laredo w/hitch..

Wondering If anyone here has had luck finding anything for a reasonable price and if so with what options.. I've done a little research but have run into a lot of dead ends.. Metal bumpers for these vehicles seem rare and expensive!

Blue Lake Offroad's WK Rear Bumper: Offers plenty of options(scroll to bottom of page), but the price is way up there; $675 for a base-line bumper. Perhaps they've got the market cornered and are not having to compete for business... Maybe it's just a damn well-made bumper?

Was just wondering if anyone has found anything similar for a lesser price? I can't shell out seven hundred for a bumper, and at this point am considering getting something custom built from a local welder...

I've never seen an upgraded bumper for the WK at a 'reasonable' price. The one you found is probably the cheapest I have seen.

I doubt a local fab shop would do it for less than 700. Just my personal experience. Grand cherokee bumpers are a lot more complex than a TJ or yj. Even the jks are expensive because they are somewhat complex.

I thought that bumper looked familiar. The bumper you are looking at is developed by the tactical armor group - I haven't seen it in person, the pictures of it look good though. We had a discussion about this product and the wincher several several months ago. I was a little irritated because I couldn't seem to get them to provide me with approach and departure angles to save my life. But it does look like it has great utility.

Re-Sellers? How to determine original manufacturers...

-I was wondering how to determine who the manufactures really are though.. Awesome website no doubt, but they appear to be a re-seller of someone else's stuff. And the reason I say that is b/c the bluelake website offers more options for their bumpers and gaurds..
Seems like I've seen something else like that going on with the Mojave/Recovery WK products but can't remember for sure on that one..
Anyone know for sure what the deal is with multiple different websites selling the same products for different prices but with the same pictures of the products? And how do you trace it back to the original manufacturer?

P.S. .. GraKee99, I've got a buddy who does a lot of custom fab work and who's a hell of a welder, If I can draw him a design he could build it.. It'd just be a matter of talkin' the guy into it

Designing it and cutting all the pieces is the hard part. Welding it together is easy. If you go through with building it, keep track of time it takes and you will see why it is so much to buy fabricated bumpers.

Good luck and post pictures once your done. Sure other would like some inspiration.

Thanks man, I just can't believe there's not already more options from manufacturers... These Jeeps have been out for a while. I know Saguaro made some for a while then discontinued them, just seems like there'd be more of a market for 'em...

It is just the way the market is with grands. It takes them being about 10 years old before companies start manufacturing parts for them. Almost like companies are waiting for warranties to expire before they start making parts.

Yes - they are called vendors. Not uncommon for vendors to carry the same or similar products. Unfortunately, it is possible to by a Jeep at a Ford dealership.

Easy, contact them directly and ask who develops it.

I'm pretty sure TAG develops these bumpers, and Blue Lake is a vendor and/or a sister company. Easy to tell by TAG's RnD advertisements for vehicles they would like to develop bumpers for.

just wanted to add to this thread with expierence:

late January i ordered a bumper from TAG (Kyle himself) for 820 for my zj.

well in febuary i found this tread and one other talking about TAG and Kyle. so concerned because i paid in full i contacted Kyle and told him about this tread and what they said, he then assured me that none of it was true and went on about why he didnt like FORUMS. but was always very helpful with any questions i had.

any ways 7 weeks later no bumper? so i called him and emailed him no response. Monday called emailed again no response. now i was nervous so having no experience with this i contacted my family friend who works in the fraud department and he said "how long has it been and i said around 49 days" and he said call your bank now and report fraud you have 50 days from time to purchase to do so he was waiting for the fifty days." wow so i wasted 3 months waiting for a bumper and find out he was waiting to screw me over, thanks kyle.

so i called the bank and got every penny back, and reported him.

and kyle if you read this, karma is a ***** and this is what happends when you screw over good people who trust you......

my two cents ahha

on a good note i bought lockers
