Where to go for SERVICE???

I have a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and today the check engine light popped on. Tried every method I have seen to read the codes myself but the key trick doesn't work and I don't have a trip odometer reset button to hold, it's all electronic. I have a full coverage warranty so my question is do I take it to a small ASE Certified Jeep specialist shop or to the local Jeep dealer? Never dealt with either so not really sure which way to turn.

Would take it back to where I purchased it but they are over an hour's drive away and if they needed parts or something then I'd be stuck in a clunky loaner.

Thanks!

Napa, autozone, parts store. You can rent or borrow a code reader.

Take it to an auto parts store that will scan it for you. If its something simple, fix it yourself so that you don't have to deal with the dealership

Did that yesterday evening and ran to an auto parts store. They scanned it as P0456 which they described as "Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected" which when I got home and looked is most likely something with the gas cap. Didn't know that when I was at the store or I'd of had them reset it (after tightening the cap) and see if it comes back. Now I have this light in my face. Is there any way to reset myself other then disconnecting the battery?

Also, the older Jeeps have methods for the owner to get the code their self, is there any way to read them on a Grand Cherokee Laredo with no trip reset button and the key trick doesn't work???

What do you mean by a full coverage warranty? Is it a Chrysler Service Contract - or some other company?

Tighten or replace the cap. Then pull battery cable. It should go away, if it comes back you have issues. Something rubber could be dry rotted or loose. Gas cap or evap test system. Ive had this problem on a dakota. Loose hose under the hood.

Called the parts store that read the codes to see if they'd reset it (save me from yanking the battery cable) and they said they could. Drove there with the check engine light on and when I asked they said that I must of talked to a different branch and they weren't allowed to reset codes. So I jumped in the Jeep to leave and WA-LA! the light was OFF. Go figure. Been off since I left (including getting gas and TIGHTENING the cap tight). if it comes back on I'll have it checked, if not then I'll learn to tighten the dang cap.

As far as the warranty it's thru CarMax and it's 100,000 mile bumper to bumper, on everything except normal wear parts.
