What year should i buy?

I really want to pick up a jeep grand cherokee, probably after the winter but I want to start looking now. I was looking at like 07-09 and was wondering peoples opinions on them, reliable, preference, v6 or v8 all that stuff. I want a v8 but they seem to be a lot more. Am I in the right direction?

Family has an 05 with the 4.7, I just got a 2010 with the 3.7 and I miss the power. MPG's are too similar to say that's a deciding factor but for the power alone I like the 4.7. Other than that, for me, no difference. I'd go as new as you can, less chance of a neglected maintenance history.

2010 3.7L, 4XGuard Matrix, Fastman TB, TB Ground Mod, Injen CAI, 255/60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers, Bilstein Shocks & Struts, Cruiser Alloy Wheels - Switchblade, Stillen Brakes, Cargo Light Strip Mod, Electric Ashtray Mod, Jet-powered, Monkey Navigated...

2008 got an updated interior. The 4.7 v8 got a noticable power boost. I would say any year 4.7 would be good. It seems alot of people get the 3.7 v6 and regret it later. The mpgs are the same, sometimes worse with the v6 because you have to wring its neck to get it to climb hills or pass at elevation.

Having just bought an 06 HEMI after looking around for about a month, here's my .02:

- 05-06 could be had for around $15K, with HEMI.
- 08 models would probably be in $20K+
- if you want 4.7, 08 had a power boost (prev post)
- good deals could be had with private party purchases
- if you have tons of time and some1 with access to auto auctions, you can save $2-3K
- NAV adds a lot to the price, but it is rather outdated. I'd rather get one with simple radio unit and swap that for a Pioneer/Kenwood/etc unit, if I want fancy DVD/GPS/MP3/ screen. Most of the time a $30 bluetooth adapter is all you need, assuming you have a decent smart phone. I have Nexus One with 32GB memory (most of my music there), always up-to-date Nav + live traffic, hands free phone etc.
- Carfax is a must when you see something you like
- start with you local Jeep dealers . Their inventory will have a LOT of off-lease 08 models, but you might find a real 05-06 gem there too.
- Craigslist, autotrader.com, cars.com are nice resources
- Not sure what was the last time you dealt with used car salesppl, you must have your war face on

2009 / 2010. Those years represent the vehicle at full maturity. VVT on the Hemi with 27 extra horsepower.

I have an 05 hemi with every option available. I payed 14,500 for mine threw an auto auction. I have no regrets what soever. The mileage difference from the 4.7 to the 5.7 is a big enough difference for me to say dont get the hemi. I would recommend the hemi to anyone..

I would say 08 and up because of the minor improvements that were made. With that said, I have an 06 Commander and am picking up an 07 Grand Cherokee tomorrow. The price difference in my area for the 08-11 just wasn't worth it. The newer Nav is what I really wanted, but i am used to the Nav in the XK, so I won't have any real problems with the Nav in the WK.. just a preference really. The WK I am getting is an 07 Limited with Hemi, QD2, Nav and 82k. More miles than I wanted, but I am getting it for 14.5k. It books for more on kbb and Nada and is cheaper than most in my area too.

2007 Grand Cherokee - Hemi, QDII, Predator tune

Thanks for all the feedback I really like the 4.7 upgrade in the newer models. Is there a huge difference in the laredo and limited?

So far from what I've seen; the Laredo just has less options but that's not so universal. Mine doesn't have fog lights, dual climate control, lighted mirrors in the visors, no tow package, no built in 3 channel garage door opener. Just a lot of minor stuff. Could be different with others' Laredos though.

Personally, i'm shopping for an 05-06 Hemi. The V6 isn't bad, definitely more power than my I6 ZJ, but not for me. I want to just get the 5.7 and have it over with lol. I am kinda stuck on finding navigation/dvd but I might let that option go to get an aftermarket setup for less money. I just want to be able to use bluetooth from my phone through the speakers.

I've seen then range from 70k miles to 110k miles with prices from $10k to $20k depending on options, private vs. dealer, etc.

I found a SICK lifted 06 with 70k miles and no Nav...but $20k is way too much in my opinion. I'd pay maybe 14k tops for it.

Sounds to me like you know what you're doin' man. I think you will find what you are looking for. Just check to make sure everything works - all the small stuff too... the little gadgets and gizmo's.

Laredo x model has leather, boston stereo, heated seats 6 disc, painted handles, sunroof, remote start and tow package. I got mine with the 2008 4.7. Paid 22k 2.5 years ago.

I didnt like the lighter interior colors on the limiteds i found in denver. Mostly how worn the tan leather steering wheels were. I saw the black and grey leather in mine and said thats the one. Actually the wife picked it out....
