Wrap the inserted part with something. Maybe duct tape or something simular.

Take it out and insert only when needed. SYS... Save your shins.

I found a Stowaway Hitch tightner on Amazon for $21.95 that works great. Its a u bolt & plate that clamps the draw bar down tight. Should work for your app.

Thanks nevrdone1 that Stowaway bit is perfect!

And I'm hoping my hitch step will discourage (or inconvenience) all the NYC barbarians who park by braille.

I leave my ball mount in all the time because people in Seattle also park by touch. The clamp stops the rattle. Just watch out for your shins.

I have a Smittybilt shackle hitch mount, and I siliconed some rubber sheet to it. No more rattle.

I guess I'll add what I did to the WK today. I filled it up with diesel after a road trip yesterday. Averaged 25.9 MPG. Not too bad!

Well I technically didn't "do" anything today, but this came in the mail and I'm so excited! First I'm replacing the hardware with stainless steel, then silicone sealing the 2 seams where the 2 pieces join, and then spraying it flat black with about 9 coats to prevent the rusting others have experienced.

Good looking rack. Forgive my ignorance. Who makes it?

Haha in my high level of excitement I omitted the most important detail! It's the Rola Vortex rack, snagged on Amazon for $149 shipped! I've seen it on eBay from 165-190ish, and more like 210 from Rola.

Does look like a good price. Hope you post pics once you have it finished and mounted.

Yesterday... Got rear ended by a van. Knucklebone saved me. Lolz. No damage to the body at all. Just my license plate and the license plate bracket. Van's front was pretty messed up. I should have taken a picture but both of us were in a rush. I just let him go. Later i realized that my rear wiper arm snapped from the impact of the tire.... Ohh well... At least nobody got hurt... Still sucks though. Also found a nail in one of my wheels

I will most certainly post picks when it's all done and riding up top. Hoping to get it done Sunday, weather here on Long Island is supposed to be low 40s and sunny. Fingers crossed it holds out!
