Basically just the tubing. The 4xG are great rails and they definitely look cleaner than these, but they do not provide any door protection. They are super strong and provide excellent ground clearance and rocker protection, but when you are on a side slant with a rock or some kind of obstacle at your side, they don't quite cut it. These SA sliders have the tubing that protrudes out an additional couple inches that will help repel obstacles a lot better and give much better door (side) protection. Kind of like this:

I will most likely be selling the 4xG front skid and side rails here soon. I will try to sell them locally first and if I can't then I will consider shipping them out. I know there are a few guys in SoCal that could use them so that would be easier and cheaper.

Ya I love the look of the 4xG rails and they were great for a while, but the more I push this thing the more protection I need.

Why not just weld a tube on the side? Do you think it wouldn't be able to handle the angular force if a rock hit it?

That was my plan until I got a deal on these! If someone already has the 4xG rails then that is the best solution, but if they don't then their option are open to either or.

Yeah they look really good - I cannot wait for mine to arrive. I will end up painting mine. Haven't decided on black or Graphite.

Nice! The only problem I was having with the idea was the tube size and how far they would stick out. The rails already protrude a little farther than the doors, so to have a 1.5" or 1.75" tube bend out from it without protruding any farther than the tires, would be interesting. The SA rails have the 2x4 underneath the doors so the tube can come out a good couple inches before it has to bend down the side and come back in to the 2x4.

Yea ive thought of that too but if i have a pipe on the outside of my fenders its automatically past the tires. But id have to cut an angle in the pipe so its not coming up & weld it low to the rails

Also last time i was at rausch creek my rails didnt hit anything so id have to be doing some serious stuff for them to scrape now

I was planning something like that but was worried if I did get into one of the tubes around the fender, it would push it into the fender and cause more damage. I am taking my front fenders off to make a custom set of tube fenders. Hopefully they turn out good.

Just spray them with WD40 every week.

Ya if you are welding a tube along the fenders then you will have more protrusion room to work with. When are you planning this adventure? Are you planning on adding a support or two through the fender into the frame?

I've been talking to Sal about whether to bedline mine or not.. But If I go with black, I'll probably bedline mine too. Sal slammed on his, and just goes behind it and sprays it down like nothing happened, lmao.
