I just bought a 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo Rocky Mountain 4.7L V8 with 98,000 miles. The dealer is saying that it should get 16/17cty and 20/21Hwy. However, I've driven roughly 90 miles combined in the 4 days I've had it and the MPG average indicator says I'm only getting 13.3 right now. That is with 40 highway miles and the rest stop and go city. Should I take it back and have them fix something or is this what I should be expecting, in which case I will be trading it back for something smaller like a patriot. Driving for work I will be filling it about every other day and I cant afford that.
What size tires does it have? If they are bigger than stock that calculator will read low.. it could also be due for a tune up if do a few easy things like plugs, egr, pcv and clean the throttle body that should help a little at least

go back to the dealer if youre not happy and request a maintenance history or report. my guess is they did the usual maintenance befoire selling the WK- and oil change, rotate the tires, top off all fluids. if it needs a tune-up i doubt they will give it one. if the diff fluids or any other fluids need changed and its not hindering the performance, as in it makes the vehicle run or sound like crap.. they prob wont do anything about it.
so if you want better gas mileage, you may have to get your hands dirty and start doings ome maintenance on your own.. or take it back.
